Race:1 (507) BRIAR HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

As the start was effected, BINGO HERO lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, BINGO HERO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
LIGHTNING MISSILE shifted in at the start and bumped MEGATRON. After this, from a wide barrier, LIGHTNING MISSILE was steadied and shifted across behind runners.
Also from the outside barrier, GOLDEN CANNON was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, LIGHTNING MISSILE raced close to the heels of NEVER BETTER.
Approaching the 200 Metres, GOLDEN CANNON and ROMANTIC JOURNEY raced tight. Then near the 150 Metres, ROMANTIC JOURNEY was bumped by GOLDEN CANNON (C Y Ho) which shifted to the outside of MEGATRON. GOLDEN CANNON then continued to shift out, resulting in ROMANTIC JOURNEY being hampered. C Y Ho was advised to exercise more care.
After the race, M Harley stated that whilst he had to make some use of MEGATRON in the early stages to obtain a forward position, the horse then settled well after shifting in to race outside the leader LUCKY STORM approaching the 1300 Metres. He said MEGATRON then travelled comfortably, however, came under pressure prior to the 400 Metres. He said rounding the Home Turn MEGATRON made an abnormal breathing noise and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MEGATRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. Before being allowed to race again, MEGATRON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NEVER BETTER, S de Sousa stated that in the early stages he was able to obtain a good position, however, approaching the 1200 Metres was taken back in the field somewhat by ROMANTIC JOURNEY. He said after this NEVER BETTER travelled only fairly and then when the pace of the race quickened the horse did not show a turn of foot. He said after being shifted to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn, NEVER BETTER, despite being ridden out, did not finish off the race and was disappointing. He added NEVER BETTER felt "flat” in tonight’s race. A veterinary inspection of NEVER BETTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, it was reported that SHOWING CHARACTER was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SHOWING CHARACTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
LUCKY STORM, RIGHTEOUS MATE and BONITO were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (508) BROOM HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

On jumping, KWAI CHUNG ELITE, which was fractious in the barriers, bounded in the air and lost ground.
ORIENTAL ELITE shifted in on jumping and bumped SUPER JUNIOR.
LE TERROIR and FARM BUMPER made contact at the start. A short distance after the start, LE TERROIR became unbalanced after being bumped by THIS ONE’S FOR YOU which shifted out after being brushed by BACK IN BLACK. After this, LE TERROIR and FARM BUMPER were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Also from a wide barrier, DRAGON LEGEND was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
After initially being ridden along in the early stages, KHAKI failed to muster speed and then for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover.
Approaching the 200 Metres, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU raced in restricted room between FARM BUMPER and KHAKI which shifted out.
Near the 100 Metres, KHAKI was steadied away from the heels of LE TERROIR (M F Poon) which shifted out under pressure. M F Poon was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.
After the 100 Metres, FARM BUMPER raced tight outside THIS ONE’S FOR YOU.
A veterinary inspection of KHAKI and SUPER JUNIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LE TERROIR, ORIENTAL ELITE and ROYAL CHOCOLATE were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (509) THE HAPPY VALLEY VASE (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 1 1800 m

CHARITY GO began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out and bumped RUTHVEN.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, INSAYSHABLE was steadied away from the heels of TURIN REDSTAR which was racing tight inside CHARITY GO. INSAYSHABLE was then awkwardly placed behind TURIN REDSTAR for a short distance.
After the 1200 Metres, CHARITY GO got its head up when racing keenly and awkwardly placed behind RUTHVEN.
Approaching the 250 Metres, VICTORY BOYS was momentarily held up for clear running behind RUTHVEN which shifted out marginally when commencing to give ground.
After the race, S de Sousa reported that TURIN REDSTAR travelled satisfactorily in the early stages, however, came under pressure after the 700 Metres at which time he had to ride his mount along with some urgency. He said TURIN REDSTAR briefly responded to his riding, however, again came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of TURIN REDSTAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
TURIN REDSTAR, CITRON SPIRIT and VICTORY BOYS were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (510) GREEN LANE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

On arrival at the Start, Z Purton expressed concern regarding the action of HAPPY WARRIOR. HAPPY WARRIOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, said the horse was suitable to race.
THE FULL BLOOM was checked on jumping when crowded for room between CHIU CHOW KID and SPARKLING SWORD which shifted out abruptly.
CALIFORNIA LEGEND was crowded for room on jumping between PERFECT TO PLAY and COMPASSION STAR, both of which shifted ground.
A short distance after the start, CROWN AVENUE raced tight between CHIU CHOW KID and MEDIC DRAGON which shifted in.
From the outside barrier, ASSOCIATION FANS was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Rounding the Home Turn, SPARKLING SWORD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS.
When questioned, Apprentice H T Mo stated that he was instructed to attempt to lead on HINYUEN SWIFTNESS, however, if another rider was intent on leading, it was acceptable for him to take a trailing position behind that horse. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount hard for a considerable distance in the early stages. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion it was apparent to him that COMPASSION STAR and CALIFORNIA LEGEND were being ridden along to lead and given that he had ridden HINYUEN SWIFTNESS for some distance in the early stages, he did not believe it would be in the best interests of the horse to continue to ride it along as both CALIFORNIA LEGEND and COMPASSION STAR were showing more early speed. He said he therefore elected to take a trailing position behind COMPASSION STAR. He said the tempo of the race in the early stages was particularly fast and he was of the view that if he continued to ride his mount along, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS would not be able to finish off the race. He added after being crossed by COMPASSION STAR near the 1200 Metres, that horse opened up a margin over both HINYUEN SWIFTNESS and CALIFORNIA LEGEND. He said as he had ridden his mount for some distance in the early stages, he was reluctant to again ride it along to prevent CALIFORNIA LEGEND from crossing HINYUEN SWIFTNESS after the 1100 Metres and therefore he took a trailing position behind that horse which was further back in the field than had been anticipated. He said HINYUEN SWIFTNESS came under pressure near the 600 Metres and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CHIU CHOW KID and COMPASSION STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PERFECT TO PLAY and HAPPY WARRIOR were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (511) BROOM HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

FOX CHEUNGER began awkwardly and lost ground.
ROMAN ODYSSEY began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, KING’S TROOPER was crowded for room between APPLAUSE and JUMBO PRIZE which was taken in by LONDON MASTER which raced tight inside SUPER EURO STAR which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
From the outside barriers, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and BRAVE COMMAND were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres, JUMBO PRIZE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of APPLAUSE.
In the early stages, THOU SHALL SING was steadied to obtain cover.
Approaching the 600 Metres, SUPER EURO STAR got it head on the side and lay in. When this occurred, APPLAUSE, which was following SUPER EURO STAR, became awkwardly placed behind that horse and shifted out away from the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.
At the entrance to the Straight, JUMBO PRIZE shifted out and bumped THE SHOW.
At the 300 Metres, ROMAN ODYSSEY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.
KING’S TROOPER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and when shifted to the inside of SUPER EURO STAR passing the 200 Metres made contact with ROMAN ODYSSEY. Then near the 100 Metres, KING’S TROOPER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER EURO STAR as a result of both horses shifting ground.
Approaching the 100 Metres, APPLAUSE was crowded for room between SUPER EURO STAR and JUMBO PRIZE which shifted in marginally away from THE SHOW.
After the 50 Metres, JUMBO PRIZE was awkwardly placed behind THE SHOW and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Close to the finishing line, KING’S TROOPER was crowded for room between SUPER EURO STAR and ALL WONGCHOY, both of which shifted ground. Due to being crowded, KING’S TROOPER was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race.
When questioned, K C Leung (SUPER EURO STAR) stated that he was asked to ride SUPER EURO STAR positively in the early stages and attempt to lead but not to make much use of the horse to do so. He said SUPER EURO STAR was able to show good speed in the early stages to take up a forward position and when ALL WONGCHOY improved to his outside after the 1100 Metres he believed that he would have had to ride his mount along to cross APPLAUSE to his inside to prevent being crossed by ALL WONGCHOY and holding the rail. He said rather than ride his mount along at this stage, he allowed ALL WONGCHOY to cross SUPER EURO STAR after the 1000 Metres and then improved his position after this to race outside ALL WONGCHOY from the 800 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of APPLAUSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
JUMBO PRIZE, THE SHOW and SUPER EURO STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (512) THE IRELAND TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

Making the turn near the 600 Metres, STRATHALLAN lay in towards the heels of SPECIAL STARS.
Near the 150 Metres, STRATHALLAN was steadied and shifted to the inside of SPECIAL STARS when disappointed for running between that horse and CALIFORNIA ARGENT.
Also near the 150 Metres, BRAVERY AND POWER got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly towards the heels of FLYING TIGER HERO.
After the race, Z Purton expressed concern regarding the action of SPECIAL STARS. The Veterinary Officer reported that there were no significant findings, however, noted that the horse had lost its left hind plate during the race (600 Metres). Before being allowed to race again, SPECIAL STARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DRAGON PIONEER, C Y Ho stated that the only excuse he could offer for the horse’s failure to finish off the race was that he had to ride his mount aggressively for a considerable distance in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said DRAGON PIONEER did not travel strongly at any stage of the race and then was disappointing in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON PIONEER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON PIONEER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of BRAVERY AND POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DRAGON PIONEER, SPEEDY KING and DREAM COME TRUE were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (513) HAWTHORN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

As the start was effected, HAPPY TIME, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY TIME will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

Over the latter stages of the race, K Teetan (WALDORF) dropped his left rein.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GAMECHANGERS, Z Purton stated that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages. He said although GAMECHANGERS was required to race in a three wide position, the horse had cover behind ENDEARING until near the 600 Metres. He said at the 400 Metres GAMECHANGERS was taken wider again by AMBITIOUS HEART which shifted out away from the heels of ENDEARING which resulted in GAMECHANGERS becoming unbalanced. He said after balancing up GAMECHANGERS, his mount came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight, however, did not respond to his riding and weakened towards the rear of the field near the 200 Metres. He said given that the horse was well beaten at this stage, he did not persist in riding it out over the concluding stages. He added whilst he had not ridden GAMECHANGERS previously, he was unable to detect any obvious abnormalities with the horse during or after the race. A veterinary inspection of GAMECHANGERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GAMECHANGERS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GAMECHANGERS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Approaching the 250 Metres, BIG BANG BONG was momentarily awkwardly placed behind LAST KINGDOM.
