___________

RACE 1: Lone Pine Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1500m:

Lady Cuvee – slow into stride and, shortly afterwards shifted inwards behind runners to obtain cover.

Better Take Cover – from the 200m to the 100m, was held up when racing in restricted room between Mojito and Peace Of Mind.

Glamarama Girl – on jumping, bumped with Peace Of Mind.

Mojito – dipped on two occasions in the back straight.

Peace Of Mind – laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.

Valley Of Light – When questioned regarding the mare leading today, Y. Ichikawa said that he was instructed to ride his mount prominently. Co-trainer Mr L. Price advised that when resuming from a spell at Kembla Grange on 6 April 2019, after being slow to begin, Valley Of Light was shifted behind runners from its wide draw and settled at the rear of the field. He said that today his instructions were to have the mare positioned depending on how it began from a more favourable barrier. He stated that he was to ride the mare conservatively if slowly away, however, if his mount began on terms, he was to ride Valley Of Light in a more forward position. Stewards acknowledged that, whilst there was an option for Valley Of Light to be ridden further forward today, nevertheless, Mr Price was advised that, in future, he would be expected to notify the Stewards in advance of any change of tactics.

RACE 2: Cape Helles Maiden Plate 1500m:

Opera Tickets – slow to begin.

Commentator – hung outwards rounding the home turn. Commentator lost its off-hind plate in the running.

Kiss The Bride – raced keenly in the early stages.

Killer Instinct – When questioned, S. Guymer stated that he was instructed to ride the filly back in the field with cover, however, when the tempo was slow in the early stages he was unable to obtain cover and raced wide and without cover until near the 1000m where he was able to obtain a midfield position behind Kiss The Bride. He added that approaching the home turn, when the tempo quickened, his mount did not respond as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Killer Instinct to have cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr J. O’Shea was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, would be required prior to Killer Instinct having to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Lady Legend – slow into stride. Shortly afterwards shifted inwards behind runners and thereafter raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover from the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3: Fromelles Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1500m:

Momentum Amethyst – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Bulwark – B. Spriggs was warned and advised that in future he must ensure that he rides his mount out to the end of the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Homberg – near the 200m laid outwards under pressure. L. Magorrian, rider of the 4th placegetter Homberg, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR211(1) in that he returned to scale 1 kilogram over his mount’s allotted weight. L. Magorrian’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 28 April 2019 and to expire on Saturday 4 May 2019, on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty, Stewards were mindful of L. Magorrian’s good record relating to this offence and guilty plea, however, were cognisant of the margin of a long neck between his mount and the 3rd placegetter Hubble.

Resonare – jumped awkwardly inwards and bumped Hubble, which in turn shifted inwards and bumped Momentum Amethyst. Resonare lost its off-hind plate in the running.

Bon Warrior – Stewards permitted K. Latham to ride the gelding ½ kilogram over its declared weight of 55 kilograms. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Hubble – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.

Thor’s Thunder – Stewards permitted M. Bell to ride the gelding ½ kilogram over its declared weight of 54½ kilograms.

Mr Boomjangles – raced keenly and was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages.

RACE 4: Charge of Beersheba 2YO Maiden Handicap 1400m:

Kyanite – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.

O’Solexi – Stewards permitted K. Latham to ride the filly 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 54½ kilograms. O’Solexi was slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which was beaten 22.5 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K. May advised that O’Solexi will now be spelled, however, notwithstanding this advice, he was advised that the filly will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Citrouille – shortly after the start was steadied off the heels of Soubob (C. Lever), which shifted inwards when not quite clear. C. Lever was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Everjust – slow to begin.

RACE 5: Long Tan Maiden Handicap 1300m:

Frikkers – which was resuming from a lengthy spell, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race. Near the 200m was steadied off the heels of Cry Of Achilles, which shifted inwards away from the whip, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount. C. Lever reported that his mount laid outwards throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Frikkers to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Stable representative Mr J. Bruce was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Frikkers being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Cry Of Achilles – raced wide and with no cover in the early stages. When questioned, M. Bell stated that his mount’s performances have been rather inconsistent of late, however, from a wide barrier today he had to make use of his mount in the early stages to obtain a position outsider the leader Frikkers, which he eventually achieved approaching the first turn. He further stated that in the home straight his mount did not respond as expected and was disappointing, and he felt that the early effort contributed to his mount’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of Cry Of Achilles did not reveal any abnormalities.

Highjacker – slow to begin.

Spicy Mo – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Spicy Mo to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr M. Van Gestel advised that, in light of today’s poor performance, the mare will now be spelled.

RACE 6: City of Wollongong RSL Sub-Branch Gallipoli Cup Colts, Geldings and Entires Benchmark 64 Handicap 1200m:

Rockin’ Ruga – Change of tactics – to be ridden prominently: led.

Broom Broom – slow to begin.

Quick Finance – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Rheingau – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Watching – shortly after the start, bumped Treasure Boss. Near the 250m was held up when racing behind Kanguru and, shortly afterwards, was directed to the inside of Treasure Boss to obtain clear running. Near the 100m was steadied off the heels of Mr Grumpy, which rolled outwards.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Treasure Boss – near the 50m was steadied off the heels of Halliday Road (App. J. Duggan), which shifted outwards. App. J. Duggan was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Uh Oh – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.

RACE 7: Uruzgan Fillies and Mares Benchmark 64 Handicap 1200m:

Buffy – raced wide and without cover throughout the race.

Crimson Ticket – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover.

Impetuoso – slow to begin.

Take To Heart – blundered on jumping. Near the 600m became awkwardly placed on the heels of Sakura.

Accoy – slow into stride.

RACE 8: Kokoda Track Maiden Plate 2000m:

Mr Beasley – raced wide and without cover for the majority of the back straight.

Costa Zou – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover from the 700m until the home turn when making its run to improve its position. Near the 100m was eased off the heels of Saintly Sunrise, which was bumped and taken out by Polished Penny (J. Taylor), which shifted out when not quite clear. J. Taylor was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Little Arnie – When questioned regarding the gelding racing prominently today, M. Bell stated that he was under no specific instructions other than to ensure that his mount began satisfactorily. He added that, after his mount began well and when the tempo was only moderate, he allowed Little Arnie to stride forward without unduly pressuring it whereby the gelding was able to establish the lead near the 1200m, which was further forward than expected.

Loves To Rock – slow into stride.

Madame Margaux – Change of tactics – to be ridden conservatively from its wide draw: settled back. From its wide draw was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Y. Ichikawa replaced L. Magorrian as the rider of the filly. L. Magorrian was fined $300 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride on Madame Margaux and subsequently being found to be overweight.

Polished Penny – from its wide draw was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn until the 250m.
