RACE 1:  Century 21 Novocastrian Canter Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1850m

Classic Warrior – was a late scratching at 7.37am on veterinary advice.  Trainer Mr G Moore was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Classic Warrior being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

 

Wild Sheila – on jumping was bumped by Crystal Lake, which shifted out.  Raced keenly in the early stages.  Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

 

Munsa Magic- knuckled on jumping.  Near the 300m was hampered by Wild Sheila, which shifted in when inclined to hang in.

 

Oakfield Empire – pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

 

Carif – blundered approaching the 1600m.  Laid in under pressure over the final 300m.

RACE 2:  Easy Payroll Global Maiden Plate 900m

From The Hip – reared as the start was effected and lost ground (2L).

 

Aldee – began awkwardly.  Raced greenly throughout the early and middle stages.

 

Ayita – slow to begin.

 

Honey Elysees – began awkwardly and made contact with Super Bon.  Raced keenly in the middle stages.

 

Super Bon – hung out throughout the early and middle stages and ran wider rounding the home turn.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Secret Mission – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 3:  Reward Hospitality CG&E Maiden Handicap 1400m

Chapman’s Peak – began awkwardly and lost ground and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Ski Missile – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Kyanite – on jumping was bumped by Dukes County.  When questioned regarding the performance, G Buckley stated his mount travelled comfortably in a position midfield with cover, however, it became under pressure as far out as the 600m and he could offer no explanation for its failure to respond to his riding.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Hooray Henry – raced keenly in the early stages and passing the 1200m was steadied to avoid the heels of Dukes County (C McPherson), which shifted in when not clear.  C McPherson was reprimanded.  App. J Van Overmeire (Chasing Comets) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that for some distance between the 1200 and the 1100m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Hooray Henry, which was inclined to overrace, resulting in Hooray Henry having to be continually steadied when crowded for room.  App. Overmeire’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 1 October 2019 and to expire on Friday, 4 October 2019, on which day he may ride.  In assessing penalty, Stewards were mindful of App. Van Overmeire’s good record in relation to careless riding offences.

 

Dukes County – C Reith (Favra) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Dukes County, which lost its rightful running and was checked.  C Reith’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 30 September 2019 and to expire on Tuesday, 8 October 2019, on which day he may ride.

 

King Of The Realm – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 4:  Amalgamated Cash F&M Maiden Handicap 1400m

Maia Nebula – slow to begin and then shortly after was severely checked when crowded between Nahab and Classic Gown, which both shifted ground.  Overraced in the early stages.

 

Classic Gown – began awkwardly.  Overraced throughout the early and middle stages when racing wide and without cover.  Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

 

La Grisa – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Overraced for some distance approaching and rounding the first turn.  Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

 

AlamMoNa – hung in under pressure over the final 300m.

 

Nahab – when questioned regarding the performance, rider L Magorrian stated that his mount travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn responded for a short distance before weakening over the final 200m.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Night Witches – when questioned regarding the performance, rider J Penza stated his mount overraced in the lead throughout the event and as a consequence failed to finish its race off.  J Penza added that in his opinion the filly would be better suited ridden with cover.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Marise – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 5:  Prime7 Hurricane Handicap 900m

What Could Be – as C O'Brien was unable to make the weight, Stewards permitted A Gibbons to be substituted as the rider of the gelding.

 

Rebel Miss – Stewards permitted C Reith to ride the mare 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 54kg.

 

Akasaki – laid in under pressure in the home straight.

 

Charge – when questioned regarding the performance, rider L Magorrian stated that the only instruction he was issued was to ensure that his mount settled today, as he hoped to obtain cover, however, after being slow to begin (2L), his mount settled much further back than anticipated.  He said that his mount did not travel well at any stage of the event and it failed to respond to his riding when placed under full pressure rounding the home turn.  He added he could offer no explanation for the performance, other than Charge is not concentrating in its races.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of Charge in the days subsequent.

 

RACE 6:  Red Funnel Class 2 Handicap 900m

Kosciusko – the gelding shifted its near-fore plate in the mounting enclosure and had to be replated.  Kosciusko underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was deemed suitable to race.

 

Legendofoz – slow to begin.

 

Luff – approaching the 600m was steadied when crowded between Fallgold and Bengalla Bay, which was taken in by Aunty Pugs (App. L Day), which shifted in when not clear.  App. Day was reprimanded.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Miss Powerbelle – App. L Day (Aunty Pugs) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that passing the 600m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Bengalla Bay, which was taken in onto Fallgold, which became unbalanced and was turned inwards with the hindquarter and made contact with the shoulder of Miss Powerbelle, which lost its rightful running and had to be checked.  App. Day’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 25 September 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 3 October 2019, on which day she may ride.

 

RACE 7:  Sydney Junction Hotel – Ascot VIP 4YO&Up Benchmark 64 Handicap 1600m

Party Host – slow to begin.  Overraced in the middle stages.

 

Sculptures – slow to begin.

 

Ardanza – slow to begin.

 

Chosen Prince – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Pulled hard in the middle stages.  Held up in the early part of the straight and for some distance after the 200m had difficulty improving into a narrow run between Zaunkonig and Ardanza.  Passing the 150m Chosen Prince had to be checked when disappointed for clear running between Zaunkonig and Luddenham Lass, which shifted out slightly.  Chosen Prince was then able to obtain clear running passing the 50m.

 

Aoraki – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Tricky Gal – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Luddenham Lass – overraced in the middle stages.

 

Super – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 8:  Westfield Kotara Newcastle Nobbys – Benchmark 70 Handicap 1400m

Mo The Great – lost its off-hind plate in the tie-up stalls and had to be replated.  Mo The Great underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was deemed suitable to race.

 

Triple Hero – after being loaded into the barriers, the gelding got a hind leg up on the running board.  Triple Hero underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race.

 

Plaisir – slow to begin (2L).

 

Kulnura – slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by Brix.

 

CapeWickham – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Belle De Vega – slow to begin.

 

Yakety Yak – laid out throughout the early and middle stages and as a consequence raced wide and without cover.

 

Hammond Lane – held up rounding the home turn.

 

Cosmic Reign – hung out rounding the home turn, then continued to hang out under pressure in the straight and as a consequence proved difficult for its rider to fully test.

 

Found Out – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Rhythmic Pulse –when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider W Costin stated that her mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages.  She said that when the tempo increased passing the 600m her mount immediately became under pressure and failed to respond to her riding.  She added that in her opinion Rhythmic Pulse may have come to the end of its preparation.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
