Pierre Lapin made it two from two as the colt overcame a 120-day absence to claim the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni.
A half-brother to crack sprinter Harry Angel, Pierre Lapin was understandably a little fresh early on, but came through to lead in the final furlong and put his stamp on the race in the final stages to win by a length and a half.
Second went to fellow 9-4 joint-favourite Mystery Power, with Shadn, the only filly in the field, taking third.
Varian said: "He's confirmed he's a very nice horse. He's been delicate since his maiden win, but he has come good in the last two or three weeks on the gallops. I'm absolutely delighted with a performance like that.
"He's one to be really excited about for next year."
Pierre Lapin was cut to 14-1 (from 25) for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month, and was introduced as a 33-1 shot for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
