RACE 1 – TAB COBCROFT TRUST HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1000m:

General Scarlet - Ran out at the start and made contact with Feel The Knight which became unbalanced.

Feel The Knight -  Rider K. McEvoy stated that whilst the gelding was obliged to race wide and without cover it travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages.  He said that when under pressure in the straight Feel The Knight did not respond to his riding and in his opinion would be better suited on a firmer surface.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (2/5) in the off-fore leg.  Co-trainer Ms L. Longmire was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Feel The Knight being permitted to race or trial again.

Caccini - In the middle stages raced keenly.

Deviate - Near the 250m was hampered when crowded between Feel The Knight and Marokawa, which shifted out slightly to improve.

Sheza Danza - Shortly after the start was bumped on the hind quarters by Maxbux.  When questioned regarding the mare racing further back rider B. Ryan advised his instructions were to ensure that his mount obtained cover as it has a tendency to overrace.  He stated for this reason he elected to immediately obtain cover behind Caccini and when Caccini did not continue a forward move in the early stages he was obligated to settle in a position worse than midfield.  On straightening was shifted to the outside of Mosrai to secure clear running.

Marokawa - Shortly after the start was briefly tightened between Maxbux and Magic Scent which was taken out by Caccini.

Mosrai - Began awkwardly.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event and was inclined to race keenly particularly when its rider J. Innes was endeavouring to restrain his mount to find cover.

Nitro Star - Slow to begin.

Maxbux - After beginning awkwardly was then crowded between Sheza Danza and Marokawa which shifted out.

RACE 2 – SCHWEPPES HANDICAP 1400m:

Master Ash - Began only fairly.  Rider A. Hyeronimus reported that the gelding was one paced when placed under pressure in the straight.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Co trainer Mr A. Bott was asked to report back on the post-race condition of the gelding.

Final Award - Slow to begin.

Lisdoonvarna - The mare cast its near-fore plate enroute to the enclosure necessitating in it having to be re-plated.  Lisdoonvarna was examined by the Clubs Veterinarian and deemed suitable to race.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event when inclined to overrace.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be (2/5) lame in the near hind leg.  Co-Trainer Ms A. Turner was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required before it races or barrier trials again.

Chalmers - After being loaded into the barriers lunged forward and made contact with the front gates.  The gelding was removed from the barriers, examined by the Clubs Veterinarian and deemed suitable to race.  Near the 150m was inconvenienced when taken out by Touch Of Mink which shifted out to improve.

Condor - Stewards permitted M. Zahra to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allotted weight of 56kgs.  When caught wide in the early stages was shifted in behind runners.

Rock Dove - From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Making the home turn was bumped by Final Award (J. Parr) which shifted out to improve to the outside of Cisco Bay.  J. Parr was advised to exercise more care.  Rock Dove was then steadied and shifted in behind Final Award to secure clear running on straightening.

Cisco Bay - Was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide draw. Rider R. Dolan stated that the gelding settled towards the rear of the field as expected and after shifting to the outside in the straight finished the race off only fairly.  He added that in his opinion Cisco Bay would derive a significant fitness benefit from todays run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed it was slow to recover.  Trainer Ms K Buchanan was asked to report back on the condition of Cisco Bay in the days subsequent.

Eugene’s Pick - Was hampered on jumping by Chalmers which shifted out slightly.  On the home turn was taken wider when Master Ash shifted out to improve.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed Eugene's Pick to be slow to recover and to have also lost its off-fore plate in running.

RACE 3 – SHOOT OUT MILE 1600m:

Penske - Rider A. Hyeronimus advised he was instructed to ride the gelding with cover and as a result in the early stages he elected to follow Greysful Glamour.  When questioned as to whether he was able to hold a position directly behind Greysful Glamour and to hold out Rodrico, A. Hyeronimus stated that he was mindful that Penske can overrace and for this reason he elected not to allow Penske to stride forward to hold out Rodrico.  He added that at the same point he felt the tempo increased slightly and this then allowed Rodrico to take a position in advance of him.  He further stated that in the straight he was held up behind Rodrico and then did not secure clear running until approaching the 250m where his mount finished the race off reasonably well.  Stewards advised A. Hyeronimus that he should wherever possible endeavour to hold an advantageous position but accepted on this occasion he endeavoured to ride his mount to ensure his mount did not commence to overrace and be left without a finishing effort.

Dealmaker - From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  When questioned rider J. McDonald stated that his mount settled back in the field as expected and making the home turn when it was positioned a significant distance from the lead he elected to improve to the inside as he felt Dealmaker would not be able to cover ground on the turn and be competitive.  He stated after shifting to the inside of Re Edit near the 300m he had some difficultly securing clear running between the 300m and 100m before shifting to the inside of Penske at that point where Dealmaker found the line well.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Aliferous - Between the 400m and the 200m was held up for clear running behind Master Of Wine over the final 200m laid in.

Junipal - From its wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

More To Gain - The gelding cast its off-fore plate enroute to the barriers necessitating it having to be re-plated which caused a delay to the start of this race.  More To Gain was examined by the Clubs Veterinarian and deemed suitable to start.  Slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Greysful Glamour - Began awkwardly.

Re Edit - Slow to begin and then failed to muster any early speed despite being ridden along.

Master Of Wine -  Began only fairly.  Approaching the 150m was steadied when disappointed for running between Milk Man and Junipal which was inclined to lay in.  Master Of Wine was then shifted to the outside of Junipal near the 100m to continue in the clear running.

Let It Pour - After beginning only fairly then shifted in and made contact with Aspect Ratio.  In the middle stages raced keenly.

Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Star Of The Seas being permitted to race or trial again.

Cascadian - After being slow to begin was then hampered by Fierce Impact which shifted out.  When questioned K. McEvoy stated that from its good barrier he had intended to be more forward but as the start was effected Cascadian was slow to begin and as a consequence he was obliged to settle towards the rear of the field.  He added that making the home turn he was positioned to the inside of Kolding and had contemplated shifting out to improve but when he observed Tally commencing to give ground he elected to take inside runs in order to improve.  He stated after improving to the inside of Fierce Impact he then had difficulty securing clear running between the 400m and 300m where he then attempted a narrow run between Avantage and Purple Sector.  He stated that as he commenced to improve through this run Purple Sector shifted in away from Fierce Impact at the 150m which resulted in Cascadian being crowded for room for some distance before securing clear running at the 100m whereby it finished the race off reasonably well.  K. McEvoy added that in his view Cascadian may be better suited by coming to the outside where it would benefit from having clear running.
