Race:1 (39) HUNG SHUI KIU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

WINNING CIRCLE began awkwardly, got its head up on a number of occasions and shifted out, causing LET’S COME BACK, which put its head down as the start was effected, to be crowded for room.
WHISTLE UP shifted out at the start and was awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of NEVER BETTER.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, RUN MOOCHI failed to muster speed.
After being ridden along in the early stages, EXPONENTS was left racing wide and without cover and leaving the 1000 Metres was steadied to obtain cover. After obtaining cover behind WINNERS BROTHER from the 800 Metres, EXPONENTS lost ground after the 600 Metres when taken back in the field by WINNERS BROTHER which came under pressure and gave ground. The performance of WINNERS BROTHER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNERS BROTHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, CORRE RAPIDO got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BLADE RACER (H T Mo) which shifted in when not properly clear. H T Mo was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Throughout the race, WINNERS BROTHER and SHINING BRIGHT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of YEE CHEONG LUCKY, J Moreira stated that he had barrier trialed the horse on the All Weather surface in the lead up to it resuming today and YEE CHEONG LUCKY had trialed well. He said today YEE CHEONG LUCKY, which was having its first race start on the All Weather surface, was able to obtain a forward position and travelled satisfactorily until the 500 Metres at which point he had to commence riding his mount along to maintain his position. He said YEE CHEONG LUCKY came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then, despite being ridden out in the Straight, was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of YEE CHEONG LUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
YEE CHEONG LUCKY, BLADE RACER and NEVER BETTER were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (40) KAM TIN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that G UNIT had lost its left front plate which necessitated the horse having to be replated. This resulted in a delay to the start of the race.
MERIDIAN GENIUS began awkwardly.
SUNSHINE UNIVERSE began awkwardly and then was bumped by QUADRUPLE DOUBLE.
E GENERATION and WONDER WIN bumped at the start.
GLORIOUS BUDDY began only fairly and then was bumped by GUN GUN WIN which shifted in.
Near the 550 Metres, GUNNAR shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of HAPPY GOOD GUYS. GUNNAR and HAPPY GOOD GUYS again made contact passing the 400 Metres.
For some distance approaching and passing the 500 Metres, JIMSON THE DRAGON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of G UNIT when attempting to improve inside that horse. As JIMSON THE DRAGON improved to the inside of G UNIT, that horse shifted in under pressure, resulting in JIMSON THE DRAGON being awkwardly placed, shifting in and inconveniencing APOLLOS BOW which came under pressure. SUNSHINE UNIVERSE, which was following APOLLOS BOW, was shifted to the inside of that horse passing the 400 Metres. After this, JIMSON THE DRAGON remained awkwardly placed inside G UNIT which continued to lay in under pressure.
Passing the 500 Metres, APOLLOS BOW was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE which got its head on the side and lay out.
Passing the 150 Metres, APOLLOS BOW shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY GOOD GUYS.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in due to contact occurring between MERIDIAN GENIUS, the winner of the race, and VICTORY POWER (Z Purton), second placegetter, over the final 100 Metres. It was found that near the 200 Metres VICTORY POWER shifted in under pressure. It was further found that at the 100 Metres MERIDIAN GENIUS and VICTORY POWER brushed due to both horses shifting ground. After this, MERIDIAN GENIUS and VICTORY POWER continued to race tight and passing the finishing line again brushed. As the Stewards were satisfied that the contact between the two horses was initially as a result of both horses shifting ground which then resulted in them racing tight over the concluding stages, the matter did not proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing. Accordingly, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. Whilst it had no bearing on the decision of the Stewards, Z Purton viewed the videos before electing not to enter a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of VICTORY POWER.
MERIDIAN GENIUS and VICTORY POWER were sent for sampling.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY WINDRIDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SHOUSON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of FORTUNATE RUNNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FUN TIMES and RELENTLESS ME were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (42) LAU FAU SHAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

This resulted in BOND ELEGANCE being steadied approaching the 50 Metres. C Schofield was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Throughout the race, TOUCH OF LUCK travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, H W Lai reported that XIANG LAN QI made a significant abnormal breathing noise during the race. A veterinary inspection of XIANG LAN QI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of XIANG LAN QI, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, XIANG LAN QI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, H N Wong (VERY SWEET ORANGE) stated that in its previous starts on the All Weather surface the horse had been able to lead. He said in today’s race, despite being ridden along in the early stages, ELITE BOY showed more speed than VERY SWEET ORANGE and after being crossed by that horse after the 800 Metres, VERY SWEET ORANGE appeared to resent the kickback as it would not maintain its position behind ELITE BOY. He said VERY SWEET ORANGE then did not finish off the race and weakened in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of VERY SWEET ORANGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of TOUCH OF LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ELITE BOY and PRINCE OF GEMS were sent for sampling.

From a wide barrier, GODSPEED was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
A Sanna (CASIMIRO) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SMILING SUCCESS, resulting in that horse being hampered when checked away from the heels of CASIMIRO. A Sanna was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 9 October 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 13 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Sanna’s good race riding record.

Near the 250 Metres, CASIMIRO was steadied away from the heels of EMERALD SPUR (G van Niekerk) which shifted out. G van Niekerk was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
C Y Ho (FALCON TURBO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of PEARL CHAMPION, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Tuesday, 1 October 2019 and to expire on Monday, 7 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Ho’s good race riding record.
Close to the finishing line, STARSHIP was awkwardly placed outside FALCON TURBO which shifted out away from EMERALD SPUR. Because of this, STARSHIP was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on VOYAGE KING at the request of Trainer F C Lor. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, VOYAGE KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Passing the 450 Metres, ARDENODE was shifted in away from the heels of MASSIVE POCKET.
Near the 250 Metres, MASSIVE POCKET shifted out after racing tight outside WINNING METHOD and was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOKO. MASSIVE POCKET then raced in restricted room between GOKO and MR LUMIERES passing the 200 Metres when improving into tight running between those horses.
Passing the 200 Metres, ARDENODE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNING METHOD which shifted to the inside of MR LUMIERES.
When questioned, A Sanna (ARDENODE) stated that the horse had been disappointing in the manner in which it had been weakening in its races. He said because of this he was asked to hold ARDENODE up for as long as possible in order that the horse could finish off the race better than it had been. He said after getting back in the field in the early stages due to an incident at the start, he commenced to allow ARDENODE to improve after the 600 Metres. He said he continued to urge ARDENODE forward and commenced to ride the horse along after the 400 Metres. He added after shifting away from the heels of WINNING METHOD passing the 200 Metres the horse then closed off better than it had been.
When questioned regarding the performance of KA YING MASTER, M L Yeung stated that KA YING MASTER did not appear to him to handle the faster tempo stepping up in grade to Class 3. He said today’s race was run at a faster tempo than at its previous two starts which resulted in KA YING MASTER, which was again ridden in a forward position today, coming under pressure after the 500 Metres. He said whereas previously KA YING MASTER had travelled strongly into the race, today the horse was under significant pressure and then did not finish off the race as it had in its previous races. He added whilst KA YING MASTER made a number of abnormal breathing noises over the final 200 Metres, it was no worse than at its previous starts. A veterinary inspection of KA YING MASTER immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
A veterinary inspection of E MASTER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, E MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

From the outside barrier, NOBLE STEED was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover.
MONGOLIAN KING was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

STAR PERFORMANCE travelled keenly after the 1400 Metres.
When being steadied to obtain cover behind STAR PERFORMANCE approaching the 1200 Metres, HARMONY VICTORY commenced to travel keenly and got its head up and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse which itself continued to travel keenly.

Near the 1350 Metres, ARCATRAZ again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of WINNING DELIGHT (Z Purton) which, when shifting in, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of RED ELYSEES and shifted in further. Z Purton was advised that primarily due to the racing manners of ARCATRAZ and also due to WINNING DELIGHT being awkwardly placed close to the heels of RED ELYSEES, he was given the benefit of the doubt. However, he was reprimanded and advised that he must make every endeavour to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground.
Approaching the 100 Metres, WINNING DELIGHT, which was laying in, was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of ASSIMILATE.
For the majority of the race, RED ELYSEES travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of ARCATRAZ, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ARCATRAZ will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ARCATRAZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The Stewards will interview H T Mo, the rider of MAGNIFICENT, regarding the tempo he set on the horse in the lead in the early and middle stages.
WORLD FAMOUS, MORE THAN THIS and BEAUTY DAY were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (47) TIN SHUI WAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

After being loaded into the barriers, HOLY HEART, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong today, reared on a number of occasions and then momentarily sat down. HOLY HEART was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, HOLY HEART will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
As the start was effected, HARBOUR ALERT put its head down and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, HARBOUR ALERT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
HOLY HEART and TRIUMPHANT ARCH bumped at the start. Then despite being ridden along, TRIUMPHANT ARCH was slow to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, GOLDIE FLANKER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, TRIUMPHANT ARCH, which shifted in, bumped HOLY HEART which was taken out marginally by UTOPIA LIFE. This resulted in both HOLY HEART and TRIUMPHANT ARCH becoming unbalanced and HOLY HEART being steadied when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT ARCH and UTOPIA LIFE.
Throughout the race, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SIMPLY BIG, Apprentice K H Chan stated that he was asked to ride the horse aggressively to take up a forward position as the earlier races conducted on the All Weather surface appeared to be favouring horses ridden up on the speed. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode SIMPLY BIG along and he had to make considerable use of the horse in order to take up as forward a position as possible. He said it was not until approaching the 800 Metres that he was able to clear UTOPIA LIFE to race outside WINNER SUPREME. He said, in his opinion, SIMPLY BIG was then not able to finish off the race due to the amount of work he had to make of the horse to obtain a prominent position. A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY BIG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of HOLY HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, an endoscopic examination was not able to be properly conducted due to the horse being fractious.
WINNER SUPREME and UTOPIA LIFE were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (48) YUEN LONG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

From wide barriers, DEFINING MOMENT and BEAUTY ENERGY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, REGENCY BO BO was slow to muster speed.
After the 1100 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP raced tight inside REGENCY BO BO which was taken in by CORDYCEPS which shifted in when awkwardly placed behind FLYING VICTORY.
Passing the 1000 Metres, REGENCY BO BO shifted out away from the heels of FLYING VICTORY, resulting in CORDYCEPS, which was racing very wide and without cover, being crowded for room inside FENRIR which at this stage when also racing wide and without cover was allowed to improve its position forward of CORDYCEPS. After this, both CORDYCEPS and REGENCY BO BO raced wide and without cover.
Approaching the 500 Metres, FLYING VICTORY commenced to shift to the outside of FENRIR to improve into tight running between that horse and REGENCY BO BO. As FLYING VICTORY shifted out, FENRIR got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in FLYING VICTORY being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of FENRIR and shifting out abruptly away from the heels of that horse, resulting in REGENCY BO BO being badly crowded onto CORDYCEPS. When FLYING VICTORY shifted out away from the heels of FENRIR, J Moreira, the rider of FLYING VICTORY, immediately stopped riding and attempted to shift FLYING VICTORY in to relieve the tightening to REGENCY BO BO. Whilst this incident was one of some significance, the Stewards were satisfied that it was as a result of FENRIR laying out and FLYING VICTORY shifting out abruptly away from the heels of FENRIR as a result of that shift. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe that there was any rider error attached to this incident and accordingly no further action was taken.
CHARIZARD had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Near the 350 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP was steadied when disappointed for running between STAR MAJESTIC and FENRIR. In this incident, PRECIOUSSHIP was struck across the nose by the whip of N Callan (STAR MAJESTIC). JOLLY CONVERGENCE, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of PRECIOUSSHIP in consequence. PRECIOUSSHIP was then shifted to the outside of FENRIR and near the 200 Metres was again steadied when disappointed for running between FENRIR and FLYING VICTORY.
A veterinary inspection of CORDYCEPS and FLYING VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PRECIOUSSHIP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
REGENCY BO BO, KING OF HEARTS and GREAT TREASURE were sent for sampling.
