WINNING CIRCLE was bumped and taken out by LUCKY LUCKY which, after initially being bumped by BULLISH BROTHER, then shifted out away from that horse. After being bumped by LUCKY LUCKY, WINNING CIRCLE shifted out and made heavy contact with WISH COME TRUE which became badly unbalanced and shifted out, causing SHOW MISSION to be crowded for room. Close to the finishing line, MONEY MARSHAL was crowded for room between SHOW MISSION and LUCKY LUCKY which shifted in. LUCKY LUCKY was then directed out to relieve the tightening to MONEY MARSHAL and consequently was not ridden out close to the finishing line. In this incident, SHOW MISSION became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by MONEY MARSHAL. MONEY MARSHAL was also not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, WINNING CIRCLE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of DISTRICT EXPRESS, K Teetan stated that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in a forward position, however, due to the manner in which the horse began, DISTRICT EXPRESS was then required to race further back in the field than had been expected. He said DISTRICT EXPRESS did not travel strongly at any stage of the race and always appeared to be unbalanced in its action. He said whilst DISTRICT EXPRESS was inconvenienced passing the 100 Metres, the horse was well beaten at this time and had no bearing on its finishing position. He added DISTRICT EXPRESS was very disappointing that after being under pressure for the majority of the race then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of DISTRICT EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. The performance of DISTRICT EXPRESS, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DISTRICT EXPRESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY LUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Passing the 200 Metres, GRACIOUS RYDER was steadied and shifted to the inside of SHINING ACE after being disappointed for running outside that horse which, after laying in in the early part of the Straight, shifted out abruptly away from the heels of GENERAL IRON after being awkwardly placed behind that horse. When questioned regarding the performance of AIOLOS, which was having its first race start tonight, Z Purton stated that although his mount was hampered at the start, it was intended for it to be ridden in a position midfield or worse as it had finished off a barrier trial in the lead up to tonight’s race when ridden quietly. He said AIOLOS commenced to travel keenly near the 800 Metres and he was momentarily awkwardly placed behind GENERAL IRON. He said although AIOLOS raced tight inside SHINING ACE approaching and passing the 400 Metres, nonetheless the horse was disappointing in its failure to close off the race after obtaining clear running at the entrance to the Straight. A veterinary inspection of AIOLOS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race:4 (492) THE EWO CHALLENGE TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

As the start was effected, POLYMER LUCK, which had been fractious, turned its head to the right before being straightened by the starting gate handler who was assisting the horse. This resulted in POLYMER LUCK beginning awkwardly, shifting in and being checked away from the heels of GOOD RUNNERS WAY which shifted out after being bumped by ENJOY LIFE. Then despite being ridden along for some distance, POLYMER LUCK settled back in the field.
LUCKY SHINY DAY shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING.
CHAMPION SUPREME shifted out at the start and bumped SUPER LUCKY which was being steadied to obtain a position with cover.
Shortly after the start, I’M THE CONQUIST and BUNDLE OF ENERGY bumped on two occasions.
From wide barriers, CHAMPION SUPREME, I’M THE CONQUIST and BUNDLE OF ENERGY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 1600 Metres, ENJOY LIFE was checked away from the heels of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING which shifted out marginally when being ridden along.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHAMPION SUPREME shifted out away from the heels of POLYMER LUCK which was being steadied to obtain cover and in doing so bumped SUPER LUCKY, As POLYMER LUCK continued to be steadied to obtain cover behind ENJOY LIFE, POLYMER LUCK clipped the heels of ENJOY LIFE after passing the winning post on the first occasion and stumbled. CHAMPION SUPREME, which continued to follow POLYMER LUCK, was hampered in consequence.
Passing the 1300 Metres, BUNDLE OF ENERGY was awkwardly placed behind POLYMER LUCK.
Near the 550 Metres, GOOD RUNNERS WAY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ENJOY LIFE (K C Leung) which shifted in when not quite clear. K C Leung was advised to exercise more care.
K C Ng (MULTIGOGO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that rounding the Home Turn he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING, resulting in that horse being taken out across the rightful running of GOOD RUNNERS WAY which was checked when crowded onto POLYMER LUCK. K C Ng was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 20 March 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 24 March 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
Approaching the 350 Metres, LUCKY SHINY DAY momentarily raced in restricted room when improving inside ELECTRIC LIGHTNING.
Near the 150 Metres, POLYMER LUCK lay in under pressure.
Close to the finishing line, ENJOY LIFE was inconvenienced by LUCKY SHINY DAY which shifted out marginally under pressure.
Throughout the race, THE FULL BLOOM travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, K C Leung stated that he had been racing behind ALPHA HEDGE after the 1000 Metres and after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse approaching the 900 Metres, ENJOY LIFE shifted out marginally away from the heels of ALPHA HEDGE which allowed POLYMER LUCK to shift out and obtain the position behind ALPHA HEDGE. He said this resulted in ENJOY LIFE being left in a three wide positon, however, he was not concerned because he had cover behind THE FULL BLOOM. He said he was aware that MULTIGOGO, GOOD RUNNERS WAY and THE FULL BLOOM were all travelling in prominent positions and he felt those horses would come under pressure near the 600 Metre turn and he did not want to get caught behind them. He said he therefore elected to allow his mount to shift to the outside of THE FULL BLOOM passing the 700 Metres and improved his position quickly to be racing outside the leader MULTIGOGO after the 600 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ALPHA HEDGE and LUCKY SHINY DAY were sent for sampling.

After the 1100 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT.
Passing the 900 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE was again awkwardly placed behind SEIZE THE SPIRIT.
When the tempo of the race steadied after the 900 Metres, CROWN AVENUE was ridden along to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 700 Metres.
Near the 550 Metres, SEIZE THE SPIRIT lost ground when crowded for room between CINQUANTE CINQ which lay in and MY WINNER which shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PLAY TO WIN as that horse commenced to give ground abruptly. CLEAR CHOICE, which was following SEIZE THE SPIRIT, shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence and bumped ASSOCIATION FANS, taking that horse wider. After this, PLAY TO WIN came under heavy pressure and subsequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of PLAY TO WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PLAY TO WIN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PLAY TO WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As PLAY TO WIN continued to lose ground abruptly, SUPERIOR BOY was checked away from the heels of that horse rounding the Home Turn and shifted out, resulting in POWER RACER being crowded for room inside SEIZE THE SPIRIT.
Passing the 300 Metres, UNIVERSAL GO GO was shifted in away from the heels of WINWIN RUBY to obtain clear running and then near the 200 Metres momentarily raced in restricted room inside that horse which shifted in before being corrected.
Passing the 200 Metres, MY WINNER was shifted to the outside of CROWN AVENUE to obtain clear running.
A veterinary inspection of WINWIN RUBY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINWIN RUBY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Near the 450 Metres, ELITE PATCH was awkwardly placed behind BABY.

Passing the 100 Metres, HANDSOME REBEL and ELITE PATCH raced tight. Then passing the 50 Metres, HANDSOME REBEL and ELITE PATCH bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground.
A veterinary inspection of HAPPY VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race:7 (495) YEE WO STREET HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

BRAVE LEGEND was withdrawn on 12.3.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MIGHTY MAVERICK (J Moreira). Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, LET’S TAKE IT EASY got its head up and consequently was very slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, LET’S TAKE IT EASY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
From the outside barriers, MAGNETISM and KUNGFUMASTER PANDA were both shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MERRYGOWIN was slow to muster speed.
KINGS SHIELD lost its right front plate approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MERRYGOWIN and LUCKY GIRL raced tight. Then near the 1300 Metres, MERRYGOWIN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOOD BEAUTY.
Passing the 900 Metres, GOOD BEAUTY commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of KINGS SHIELD. MERRYGOWIN, which was following, raced close to the heels of GOOD BEAUTY in consequence. After this, GOOD BEAUTY continued to travel keenly.
M F Poon (ULTIMATE GLORY) dropped his whip approaching the 50 Metres.
When questioned regarding the performance of ALL YOU KNOW, S de Sousa stated that from the wide barrier he was asked to ride the horse in about 5th or 6th position if possible. He said after riding his mount positively in the early stages, he steadied it after the 1500 Metres in an attempt to obtain a position with cover. He said after shifting ALL YOU KNOW in to race behind TRAVEL FIRST, ALL YOU KNOW was then left racing three wide and without cover after the 1200 Metres. He said ALL YOU KNOW travelled satisfactorily and after the 900 Metres he allowed his mount to improve its position to be racing outside MIGHTY MAVERICK. He added although ALL YOU KNOW was required to race wide and without cover, nonetheless he felt that the horse was disappointing as it came under heavy pressure passing the 500 Metres and then, despite being hard ridden, gave ground noticeably in the Straight to finish at the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of ALL YOU KNOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ALL YOU KNOW, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ALL YOU KNOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong (MERRYGOWIN) stated that after the 600 Metres he was racing behind GOOD BEAUTY, a horse he considered to be a strong chance in tonight’s race. He said approaching the 500 Metres he shifted to be racing towards the outside of the heels of GOOD BEAUTY, however, he was reluctant to too allow his mount to stride forward at this time to obtain a position behind PRETTY BAUHINIA as he was concerned that GOOD BEAUTY would shift out to race behind PRETTY BAUHINIA which would result in MERRYGOWIN being taken unnecessarily wide. He said for this reason he elected to remain racing to the outside of GOOD BEAUTY and when that horse improved inside PRETTY BAUHINIA rounding the Home Turn, he immediately shifted MERRYGOWIN to the outside of PRETTY BAUHINIA and then after being placed under pressure in the Straight MERRYGOWIN finished off the race strongly.
After the race, J Moreira stated that due to the tempo of the race in the early stages he had to make a lot of use of MIGHTY MAVERICK to cross runners to its inside and obtain a forward position. He said it was not until after passing the winning post on the first occasion that he was able to steady his mount and MIGHTY MAVERICK subsequently travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages, however, after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn then weakened over the latter stages of the race. He added, in his opinion, the horse’s failure to finish off the race could be attributed to the amount of use that had to be made of it in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY MAVERICK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of KINGFUMASTER PANDA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ALL YOU KNOW, LUCKY GIRL and MERRYGOWIN were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (496) MATHESON HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 3 1200 m

VICTORY MACHINE began awkwardly and then despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to muster speed.
Shortly after the start, ALCARI shifted out and bumped FAT TURTLE.
From wide barriers, VERY LUCKY and JOYFUL UNION were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, ALCARI was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FAT TURTLE which got its head on the side and lay in.
After the 900 Metres, BALLISTIC KING shifted in and bumped JOYFUL UNION.
Passing the 100 Metres, JOYFUL UNION got its head on the side, shifted in and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPLIT OF A SECOND.
Throughout the race, FANTASTIC FABIO travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of CHEERFULJET in the early stages, Apprentice C Wong stated that he was asked to attempt to lead, however, he was instructed not to ride CHEERFULJET along to do so as the horse had previously raced keenly when ridden in this manner and because of this had not finished off its races. He said in the early stages he rode his mount positively without riding it along and he hoped that CHEERFULJET would have sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside. He said however that when FAT TURTLE maintained its position to his inside and outside LOVING A BOOM, this resulted in CHEERFULJET racing three wide and without cover. He said CHEERFULJET made the turn after the 1000 Metres awkwardly and although the horse maintained a slight margin over FAT TURTLE, he was reluctant to ride his mount along given his instructions not to do so. He added he this resulted in CHEERFULJET racing three wide and without cover throughout the race and consequently weakened in the Straight. Apprentice Wong was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had erred in not making more use of CHEERFULJET to attempt to clear FAT TURTLE given that CHEERFULJET had established a margin over that horse after the 1100 Metres and would not have been required to place undue pressure of his mount to cross FAT TURTLE. He was further told to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner that they do not cover unnecessary ground and are able to finish off the race as best as they can. A veterinary inspection of CHEERFULJET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that it was hoped that LOVING A BOOM would obtain a position with cover and it was felt that there was good speed in tonight’s race and the horse would race in a position either behind the leaders or in advance of midfield. He said LOVING A BOOM began well and he had to ride his mount along in the early stages, however, when the race was not run at a fast tempo in the early stages, LOVING A BOOM was left racing inside FAT TURTLE which in turn was racing inside CHEERFULJET. He said given the tempo of the race in the early stages, he believed that he would have had to restrain LOVING A BOOM too heavily to obtain a trailing position behind FAT TURTLE and therefore LOVING A BOOM was left racing in the lead which was not expected. He said LOVING A BOOM races best when with cover and after being required to lead, it did not finish off its race. A veterinary inspection of LOVING A BOOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, Apprentice H T Mo (BALLISTIC KING) stated that from the outside barrier he was asked to ride the horse quietly in the early stages as it was believed that tonight’s race would be at a good tempo. He said in its most recent trial BALLISTIC KING had been ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position and then weakened over the latter stages of the trial. He said it was felt that if BALLISTIC KING were to be ridden along in the early stages from the wide barrier, the horse may be left racing wide and without cover and accordingly would not able to finish off its race. He added in accordance with his instructions he steadied BALLISTIC KING in the early stages to obtain a position with cover outside JOYFUL UNION. He said he commenced to ride his mount along to obtain a position closer to the main body of the field after the 700 Metres and BALLISTIC KING improved into the race well to be racing behind FANTASTIC FABIO rounding the Home Turn. He said he immediately shifted BALLISTIC KING to the outside of FANTASTIC FABIO at the entrance to the Straight and when placed under pressure BALLISTIC KING finished off the race strongly.
A veterinary inspection of FANTASTIC FABIO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FAT TURTLE and SPLIT OF A SECOND were sent for sampling.
