LOOK ERAS, AQUILA and BEST SMILE were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (799) STREET CAT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

On leaving the Parade Ring, MASTER BERNINI became fractious, resulting in its rider, U Rispoli, being dislodged without incident. After briefly being restrained by Jockey Rispoli, MASTER BERNINI reared, broke loose and completed a circuit of the course. Acting on veterinary advice that MASTER BERNINI was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER BERNINI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
COME ON WONGCHOY began awkwardly.
REGENCY GEM, KWAICHUNG BROTHERS and LOVE CHUNGHWA were all shifted across behind runners from the outside barriers shortly after the start.
Shortly after the start, OPEN HOUSE shifted in and bumped SHINING BRIGHT.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SPEEDY WALLY was steadied away from the heels of BONITO which was racing tight inside COME ON WONGCHOY.
Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, GOLD VELVET and SHINING BRIGHT bumped.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, COME ON WONGCHOY was steadied away from the heels of MEGATRON (A Sanna) which shifted in. A Sanna was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, MUTUAL JOY was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside BONITO.
Near the 1150 Metres, GOLD VELVET shifted out and brushed SHINING BRIGHT.
After the 1100 Metres, MUTUAL JOY commenced to prove difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind BONITO.
Passing the 800 Metres, LOVE CHUNGHWA raced tight inside OPEN HOUSE.
When questioned regarding the performance of BONITO, A Domeyer said that it was intended for the horse to lead if possible. He said BONITO did not show as much early speed as anticipated and he had to ride his mount aggressively for a considerable distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said it was not until after passing the winning post on the first occasion that he was able to desist from riding BONITO along and when MEGATRON showed more speed than BONITO, he had no option but to allow that horse to cross BONITO passing the 1300 Metres. He said BONITO initially travelled comfortably behind MEGATRON until near the 800 Metres at which time the horse came under pressure to maintain its position behind that horse. He added after this BONITO travelled only fairly and after coming under heavy pressure prior to the Home Turn was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened in the Straight. The performance of BONITO, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BONITO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BONITO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BONITO, SPEEDY WALLY and OPEN HOUSE were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (800) BULLDOZER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

YEE CHEONG PEGASUS, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 8.7.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left front tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, COMPASSION STAR, which was being assisted by a starting gate handler, became fractious, resulting in the horse being slow to begin.
SHANGHAI RUSKY began awkwardly.
JUNZI began only fairly and then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CHACHAUP, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
From the outside barrier, TOP SCORE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being steadied to obtain cover behind LIGHTNING TREASURE passing the 1000 Metres, LADY FIRST got its head up when travelling keenly.
Approaching the 350 Metres, LADY FIRST was awkwardly placed behind LIGHTNING TREASURE.
Approaching the 250 Metres, ZERO HEDGE and LIGHTNING TREASURE raced tight as ZERO HEDGE attempted to shift out from behind FANTASTIC FABIO. When unable to shift out, ZERO HEDGE was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of FANTASTIC FABIO approaching and passing the 200 Metres before being shifted to the inside of that horse approaching the 150 Metres.
After the 200 Metres, COMPASSION STAR got its head on the side and lay in. COMPASSION STAR then continued to lay in for the remainder of the race.
Near the 75 Metres, the whip of N Callan (DOLLAR REWARD) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of M L Yeung (COMPASSION STAR).
Throughout the race, SUNNY DRAGON travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred inside the final 100 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether LIGHTNING TREASURE (K C Leung) should be declared the winner of the race. Subsequently Apprentice K H Chan, the rider of FANTASTIC FABIO, dead heat second placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against LIGHTNING TREASURE being declared the winner alleging interference inside the final 100 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, it was found that after being inconvenienced by FANTASTIC FABIO as that horse shifted out approaching the 150 Metres, LIGHTNING TREASURE shifted in approaching the 50 Metres and bumped FANTASTIC FABIO, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. FANTASTIC FABIO then raced tight inside LIGHTNING TREASURE as that horse continued to shift in. Then close to the finishing line, LIGHTNING TREASURE was shifted out away from FANTASTIC FABIO. As the Stewards were satisfied that at the time that the contact occurred between FANTASTIC FABIO and LIGHTNING TREASURE approaching the 50 Metres due to LIGHTNING TREASURE shifting in, that horse had already gained a narrow margin over FANTASTIC FABIO after coming from behind that horse in the early part of the Straight. Having regard to the manner in which the horses were finishing off their respective races both prior and subsequent to the interference occurring, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the contact between the horses not occurred, FANTASTIC FABIO would have finished in front of LIGHTNING TREASURE. Accordingly, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. At a subsequent inquiry, K C Leung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 75 Metres he permitted LIGHTNING TREASURE to shift in when not clear of FANTASTIC FABIO, resulting in LIGHTING TREASURE bumping FANTASTIC FABIO approaching the 50 Metres and in turn being taken in towards ZERO HEDGE which was checked when crowded for room. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for K C Leung to be fined the sum of $60,000 in lieu of a period of suspension incorporating two racemeetings.
A veterinary inspection of TOP SCORE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LIGHTNING TREASURE, FANTASTIC FABIO and LADY FIRST were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (801) MAVERICK STAR HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

After being loaded into the barriers, DREAM WARRIORS became fractious and as the start was effected lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was very slow to begin. Having regard to DREAM WARRIORS’ record of having performed similarly in its previous race, the Stewards ruled that that horse must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again.
STARLIT KNIGHT began awkwardly.
JOYFUL HEART began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TOUCH OF LUCK.
From the outside barriers, GODSPEED, GOLDEN GLORY and NITRO EXPRESS were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 900 Metres, STARLIT KNIGHT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROMAN ODYSSEY.
For some distance after the 900 Metres, DREAM WARRIORS travelled keenly and had to be steadied away from the heels of CHARITY WINGS.
Also after the 900 Metres, due to the tempo of the race, TOUCH OF LUCK got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind STARLIT KNIGHT. JOYFUL HEART then raced close to the heels of TOUCH OF LUCK in consequence, resulting in GODSPEED, which was following JOYFUL HEART, being shifted out away from the heels of that horse near the 850 Metres. After shifting out to a position without cover, GODSPEED was then allowed to improve its position after the 800 Metres and passing the 700 Metres was bumped by STARLIT KNIGHT which shifted to the outside of ROMAN ODYSSEY.
Approaching the 600 Metres, DREAM WARRIORS improved into tight running between JOYFUL HEART and CHARITY WINGS. This resulted in DREAM WARRIORS and CHARITY WINGS bumping approaching the 550 Metres. DREAM WARRIORS then raced very tight between JOYFUL HEART and CHARITY WINGS for some distance approaching and passing the 500 Metres as CHARITY WINGS was taken out by PLAY WISE which shifted to the outside of CORRE RAPIDO as that horse commence to give ground. In this incident, JOYFUL HEART became unbalanced after being bumped by DREAM WARRIORS. CORRE RAPIDO subsequently finished tailed out. Before being allowed to race again, CORRE RAPIDO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection CORRE RAPIDO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of DREAM WARRIORS immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained minor lacerations to the left hind fetlock and pastern.
A veterinary inspection of GODSPEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DREAM WARRIORS, PLAY WISE and STARLIT KNIGHT were sent for sampling.

RIGHTEOUS MATE began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, resulting in ENFOLDING and FLAME LILY both being badly hampered.
SAVANNAH WIND began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FAITHFUL TRINITY, causing both horses to become unbalanced. SAVANNAH WIND was then crowded for room a short distance after the start between REMARKABLE and FAITHFUL TRINITY and was consequently shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain cover, SAVANNAH WIND raced ungenerously until approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
Also from the outside barriers, RAZOR QUEST and HIGH REV were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ISHVARA and FLAME LILY raced in restricted room inside DIAMOND LEGEND which shifted in.
Rounding the Home Turn, ENFOLDING was awkwardly placed behind SHINING ON.
V Borges (SAVANNAH WIND) was spoken to regarding the use of his whip on the horse when it was out of contention. V Borges was advised that this was the second occasion since commencing riding in Hong Kong that the Stewards had spoken to him in respect of this matter.
A veterinary inspection of FAITHFUL TRINITY, RAZOR QUEST and SHINING ON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HIGH REV and ENFOLDING were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (803) LET ME FIGHT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

On arrival at the Start, A Sanna expressed concern regarding the action of SHARP STYLE. SHARP STYLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, after the necessary consultations, that the horse was suitable to race. As the start was effected, SHARP STYLE stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Due to the amount of ground lost at the start, SHARP STYLE took no active part in the race. Before being allowed to race again, SHARP STYLE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SHARP STYLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BREEDERS’ STAR was crowded for room on jumping between FAIRY TWINS and MAGIC LEGEND, both of which shifted ground.
From a wide barrier, E MASTER was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, TELECOM PUMA, when being ridden along, commenced to buck, resulting in the horse being retired out of the race after the 1100 Metres. Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM PUMA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, HAPPY TIME proved difficult to settle and became unbalanced after getting its head up on a number of occasions.
Near the 850 Metres, SPACE became unbalanced of its own accord when travelling keenly in the lead.
Making the turn near the 550 Metres, MR PICASSO was awkwardly placed behind WONDERFUL JOURNEY.
Passing the 50 Metres, WONDERFUL JOURNEY was momentarily shifted out away from the heels of STRATHALLAN.
Over the concluding stages, STRATHALLAN raced tight outside FRUSTRATED which shifted out under pressure.
FRUSTRATED lost its right front plate after the race.
When questioned, V Borges stated that he was instructed to ensure that WONDERFUL JOURNEY was able to make its run to the outside of horses in the Straight if possible. He said for this reason he elected, after the 800 Metres, not to hold his position inside STRATHALLAN, rather he allowed that horse to shift in in front of WONDERFUL JOURNEY so that he would be able to shift to the outside of STRATHALLAN which he did making the turn after the 600 Metres. He said he was then able to continue to shift WONDERFUL JOURNEY to the outside of runners in the Straight in compliance with his instructions.
A veterinary inspection of MOST BEAUTIFUL and SPACE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FAIRY TWINS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
MAGIC LEGEND and E MASTER were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (805) SWEET ORANGE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1800 m

Near the 1600 Metres, TRAVEL FIRST raced tight inside RULETHEROOST which got its head on the side and lay in across the heels of TASHIDELEK.
After the race, K C Leung stated that after being able to obtain the lead in the early stages, SALTO OLIMPICO travelled well until VIGOR FAME improved its position to the outside of SALTO OLIMPICO after the 700 Metres. He said SALTO OLIMPICO immediately came under pressure and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SALTO OLIMPICO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of RULETHEROOST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
TASHIDELEK, TRUE GRIT and XIANG BAI QI were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (806) SUN JEWELLERY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

WATER DIVINER began only fairly and then was crowded for room shortly after the start between LOVING A BOOM and SPEED VISION which shifted out. After this, WATER DIVINER was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.

At the entrance to the Straight, PRANCE DRAGON and LOVING A BOOM bumped.
Passing the 250 Metres, WALDORF shifted out and brushed WATER DIVINER which got its head on the side and lay in. WALDORF and WATER DIVINER then raced tight for some distance approaching the 100 Metres as WATER DIVINER continued to lay in under pressure.
For the majority of the race, PRANCE DRAGON travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if KASI FARASI had been afforded a fair start. Evidence was taken from Jockey V Borges, Mr K H Ting, trainer of KASI FARASI, and Mr A Speechley, Starter. It was established that after being loaded into the barriers KASI FARASI became fractious and got its head down to the left for a relatively significant period. When KASI FARASI got its head down, the horse did not have all four feet on the ground as the start was effected. As the Stewards were of the opinion that KASI FARASI had not been afforded a fair start, acting under the powers of Rule 12(19), they declared the horse to be a non-runner. Before being allowed to race again, KASI FARASI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
When questioned regarding the performance of PERFECT GLORY, Z Purton stated that near the 850 Metres he was struck by some kickback as PERFECT GLORY was momentarily crowded for room inside WATER DIVINER. He said this placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race, however, he was still able to ride out PERFECT GLORY. He said at no stage did PERFECT GLORY travel well and appeared to resent being amongst runners as the horse got its head up on a number of occasions when momentarily racing in restricted room between SUPER TURBO and TORNADO TWIST after the 700 Metres. He added PERFECT GLORY was never on the bridle and after being placed under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER TURBO and SUNNY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUNNY BOY, TORNADO TWIST and LOVING A BOOM were sent for sampling.
