Race 1 JOHN DUFF & CO 3Y0 BM70 HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

Parmie Bumped on jumping away with Mecklenberg County.

Mecklenberg County Bumped on jumping away with Parmie.

Champagne Boom Began awkwardly and lost ground. From the 300m until passing the 150m was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Ponga which had commenced to weaken. For a short distance approaching the 100m raced in restricted room when attempting a narrow run between Brunot and Our Free Spirit which shifted out slightly after being straightened.

Exquisite Beauty Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and wide without cover throughout. Near the 50m rider Michael Dee had the whip knocked out of his hand by the whip of Zac Spain (That Girl).

Ponga Weakened from the 200m. Rider Ben Melham reported the gelding would be better suited ridden with cover. Trainer Jason Warren notified the gelding will now be spelled. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Lucifer's Reward Apprentice Teodore Nugent could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding which had been freshened up for today. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Honorable Mention (NZ) Change of tactics: to be ridden closer to speed from good barrier. Settled midfield. Bumped on jumping away with Maclairey (NZ). Over-raced in the early stages.

Paris Rock (NZ) Fractious in the barrier. Underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to run. Rider Damien Thornton could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Jentico Performed below market expectations. Apprentice Jessica Eaton reported the mare did not begin as expected, was not comfortable racing inside other horses and did not travel in the run. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4 IRON JACK AUSTRALIAN LAGERS BM78 HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

Twinspier (NZ) Bounded on jumping away and lost ground.

Silent Warrior Settled outside the leader. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Weakened noticeably from the 600m. Apprentice Michael Poy reported the gelding raced keenly in the lead and may not have been up to the class of today's race. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Annunciate After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride to obtain the lead near the 1600m and then over‑raced in the lead throughout the middle stages. Eased down from the 300m. Performed below market expectations. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Post-race endoscopy also detected a degree of internal exercise‑induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horse's racing performance. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to racing again.

Appmat Under pressure from the 900m and weakened noticeably in the home straight. Rider Jason Maskiell reported the gelding would be better suited when leading and over a slightly longer journey. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Midas Prince Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight. Lost its off front plate.

Weather With You Weakened under pressure in the home straight. Rider Michael Dee reported the gelding was making an unusual respiratory noise during the race. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Diplomac Jack Zac Spain was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres. Stewards took into account his record and totality of whip use.

 

Race 5 HANSON HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Rock On (NZ) Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground (3 lengths). Trainer Peter Gelagotis was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding.

Brown Ben Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Performed below market expectations. Rider Cory Parish reported the gelding raced keenly in the early and middle stages and did not let down as expected in the straight. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Torgersen (NZ) Slow to begin. In the straight laid in.

Travimyfriend (NZ) Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

Race 6 SCHWEPPES DAVID BOURKE MEMORIAL HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Lucky Fish As no other suitable apprentice was available, permission was granted for Liam Riordan to ride the gelding, only claiming a portion of his allowance. Liam Riordan reported the gelding did not begin well, consequently settling well back, but would benefit from the run.

Oberland Restrained from the start and settled at the rear of the field.

Snitzkraft Raced wide without cover throughout. In the straight laid in.

Easy Beast (NZ) Over-raced in the middle stages. Lost its off hind plate. Rider Dwayne Dunn reported the gelding travelled well but failed to let down in the straight and was disappointing. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Our Luca Performed below market expectations. Apprentice Thomas Stockdale could offer no explanation for the performance. A post‑race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Serenade The Stars (IRE) Slow to begin. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Secret Blaze Slow to begin.

Midterm (GB) Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

Creedence Rider Cory Parish reported the gelding travelled well but when asked for an effort in the straight was disappointing. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Etah James (NZ) Apprentice Fred Kersley pleaded guilty under the provisions of AR131(c) for his celebratory gesture for 4 strides prior to the winning post and was fined $750. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his record and that it was a feature race. Further, Fred Kersley pleaded guilty under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Fred Kersley's permit to ride in races was suspended for a total of six meetings to commence midnight 14 December 2019 and to expire midnight 20 December 2019 (2 metropolitan, 4 provincial). In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his record and totality of whip use.

Sam Slick Slow to begin.

Turn The Tide Shortly after the start became unbalanced when buffeted between Widgee Turf and Amadeus, both of which shifted ground slightly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and wide without cover throughout.

Ruban Bleue Raced keenly in the middle stages. Approaching the 800m got its head up when being steadied from the heels of Kazio.

Never Again Rider Noel Callow reported the gelding may have not backed up from its previous start on 30 November 2019. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Galaxy Raider Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Rider Jordan Childs reported the gelding was not suited by the tempo of the race. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 9 SPORTSBET KANGAROO RACE BM78 HANDICAP 1000 metres:

The Centaurian Knuckled badly on jumping away and became unbalanced.

Vainstream Slow to begin.

Wise Hero Began awkwardly, and as a result rider Brett Prebble made contact with the upright of the barrier. Raced wide without cover throughout. Brett Prebble reported the gelding, which was first up from a lengthy spell and after racing wide early, tired over the concluding stages and would benefit from today's race. Lost its near front plate. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Celtic Blast Passing the 900m was hampered and carried inwards by Our Gladiator.

Big Effort Passing the 900m was carried inwards by Celtic Blast. Approaching the 400m was steadied when disappointed for a narrow run between Our Gladiator and Celtic Blast, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Ben Hercules Passing the 900m was hampered and carried in by Big Effort which in turn was carried inwards by Celtic Blast which in turn was carried inwards by Our Gladiator (App T. Nugent), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear before being straightened. Apprentice Teodore Nugent was reprimanded.

Propelle Held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the 100m.

Greetings Ned From approaching the 100m was unable to obtain clear running and consequently went to the winning post without being fully tested. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
