Race:1 (574) AMBER PLATE (Sec1) Griffin Race 1000 m

SPARKING KNIGHT began awkwardly.
As the start was effected, REWARDING SHINE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. REWARDING SHINE then finished tailed out. The performance of REWARDING SHINE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, REWARDING SHINE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of REWARDING SHINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
The performance of CHATER KING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHATER KING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CHATER KING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
R Bayliss (CHATER KING) was fined $5,000 for unnecessary use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
A veterinary inspection of GALA NIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

Race:2 (575) AMETHYST HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

ADONIS was slow to begin.
RICHCITY FORTUNE shifted in at the start and inconvenienced NASHASHUK.
RAICHU began only fairly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of AMBITIOUS SPEEDY. RAICHU then lost ground when crowded for room between AMBITIOUS SPEEDY and STARLOT which shifted out after beginning awkwardly. After this, from wide barriers, STARLOT and RAICHU were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
On jumping, LEISURED FEET shifted in and brushed AMBITIOUS SPEEDY.
OTOUTO began awkwardly and despite being vigorously ridden along in the early and middle stages failed to muster speed.
Passing the 1000 Metres, LUCKY STORM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMBITIOUS SPEEDY (H T Mo) which shifted in when not properly clear. H T Mo was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground.
In the early part of the Straight, ADONIS got its head on the side and lay out.
Passing the 200 Metres, OTOUTO was momentarily steadied away from the heels of RAICHU which, after initially being taken out by ADONIS, then shifted out away from that horse.
Passing the 75 Metres, RICHCITY FORTUNE raced tight inside STARLOT.
Close to the finishing line, STARLOT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of AMBITIOUS SPEEDY and consequently was not able to be fully tested.
Throughout the race, LEISURED FEET travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan (LEISURED FEET) stated that, from the wide barrier, he was asked to obtain a position behind the speed if possible. He said he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages to cross runners to his inside and because of this was left racing outside and slightly in advance of DISTRICT EXPRESS approaching the 1200 Metres. He said as it was not available for him to obtain a trailing position behind that horse due to AMBITIOUS SPEEDY being positioned behind DISTRICT EXPRESS, he therefore allowed his mount to improve its position in the hope of being able to cross DISTRICT EXPRESS and race outside the leader RICHCITY FORTUNE. He said he was mindful that he had made a lot of use of LEISURED FEET in the early stages and because of this he did not want to ride it too vigorously to cross DISTRICT EXPRESS as he believed that the horse would then not be able to finish off its race. He added when DISTRICT EXPRESS maintained its position inside LEISURED FEET after the 800 Metres, this resulted in LEISURED FEET having to race wide and without cover throughout the race.
A veterinary inspection of DISTRICT EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
ADONIS, LAUGH OUT LOUD and AMBITIOUS SPEEDY were sent for sampling.

In the early stages, VICTORY SONG and BLISSFUL EIGHT were shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WINNING WAYS failed to muster speed.
After the 300 Metres, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was shifted in away from the heels of GREAT FIT which, after racing tight outside WINNING WAYS, then shifted in under pressure.
VALIANT DREAM and AQUILA were sent for sampling.

GREAT HARVEST and WINNING TOGETHER began only fairly.
MR MAGELLAN shifted out abruptly across the heels of RED BRICK FIGHTER on jumping and lost ground.
BEAUTY ENERGY lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between MURRAY’S PARTNERS and SONIC FIGHTER which shifted in. In this incident, MURRAY’S PARTNERS became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by BEAUTY ENERGY.
After being ridden along in the early stages, THOU SHALL SING was steadied after the 1300 Metres to obtain cover when racing wide.
Passing the 550 Metres, MR MAGELLAN became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of DIAMOND LEGEND. In this incident, MR MAGELLAN shifted out and bumped PEARL CHAMPION.
At the entrance to the Straight, PEARL CHAMPION was shifted out away from the heels of DIAMOND LEGEND which had been taken wider by THOU SHALL SING which shifted out after being bumped by SOCCER MASTER (C Y Ho) which, when being shifted to the outside of RED BRICK FIGHTER, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. C Y Ho was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

For the majority of the race, RED BRICK FIGHTER travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, Z Purton reported that VOYAGE STAR, which weakened in the Straight, made an abnormal breathing noise during and after the race. The performance of VOYAGE STAR, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VOYAGE STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of VOYAGE STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING TOGETHER and DIAMOND LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
VOYAGE STAR, BEAUTY ENERGY and SONIC FIGHTER were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (578) EMERALD HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1800 m

FORTUNE PATROL and ENJOYABLE SUCCESS began only fairly.
BEST EFFORT began awkwardly.
VICTORY FOLLOW ME and PROUD SKY were crowded for room on jumping between TRIUMPH and DOCTORS DELIGHT, both of which shifted ground. Then after being ridden along for a short distance, PROUD SKY failed to muster speed and subsequently travelled very wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
From wide barriers, GORGEOUS AGAIN and YOUNG GLORY were both shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Rounding the Home Turn, MONEY MARSHAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRIUMPH which was commencing to give ground. Then passing the 400 Metres, MONEY MARSHAL was steadied when disappointed for running between TRIUMPH and DOCTORS DELIGHT where there was insufficient room.
Passing the 400 Metres, VIRTUS STAR was awkwardly placed behind PEARL FURU (N Callan) when attempting to improve outside that horse. Then passing the 350 Metres, TRIUMPH, which was continuing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of VIRTUS STAR which, when endeavouring to improve to the outside of PEARL FURU, was taken out by that horse which shifted out under pressure. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that VIRTUS STAR had not established running to the outside of PEARL FURU, nonetheless N Callan was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. After this, TRIUMPH finished tailed out. The performance of TRIUMPH was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 300 Metres, GORGEOUS AGAIN was held up for clear running and near the 250 Metres was directed to the outside of YOUNG GLORY to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 200 Metres, DOCTORS DELIGHT was crowded for room between PROUD SKY and VIRTUS STAR which, after initially being taken out by PEARL FURU, then shifted out away from that horse.
Throughout the race, DOCTORS DELIGHT travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of ENJOYABLE SUCCESS and PROUD SKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BEST EFFORT and FORTUNE PATROL were sent for sampling.

Approaching the 600 Metres, LIGHTNING TREASURE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of FLYING VICTORY which shifted to the outside of VICTORIAM.
Passing the 200 Metres, FLYING VICTORY shifted in under pressure, resulting in its rider having to stop riding, straighten his mount and change the whip into his right hand.
A veterinary inspection of BINGO, VICTORIAM and LIGHTNING TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
VICTORIAM, FLYING VICTORY and EIGHT TRIGRAMS were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (580) PERIDOT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

As the start was effected, KWAI CHUNG ELITE lifted its front feet off the ground, began very awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, KWAI CHUNG ELITE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
SHANGHAI DRAGON began only fairly and then was crowded for room between WINNING CONTROLLER and DELIGHT EXPRESS which shifted out.
STRAPPING BAUHINIA shifted out at the start and bumped SIMPLE ELEGANT, causing that horse to become badly unbalanced.
SUNNY POWER and MARQULA bumped at the start.
From wide barriers, SUNNY POWER and DASHING DART were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1400 Metres, DELIGHT EXPRESS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING CONTROLLER.
Passing the 1200 Metres, DELIGHT EXPRESS was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 450 Metres, DASHING DART raced very close to the heels of DELIGHT EXPRESS when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
MARQULA was eased down and retired out of the race in the early part of the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MARQULA immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, MARQULA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Approaching the 200 Metres, SMART ROCKET shifted out and raced close to the heels of SIMPLE ELEGANT (M L Yeung). Then passing the 200 Metres, SIMPLE ELEGANT, which was racing greenly, shifted in, resulting in SMART ROCKET being steadied away from the heels of SIMPLE ELEGANT and shifting in. SMART ROCKET then raced tight inside SIMPLE ELEGANT and near the 100 Metres shifted in, resulting in DOR DOR being steadied when crowded for room. M L Yeung was reminded of his obligation to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
The performance of DELIGHT EXPRESS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DELIGHT EXPRESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of WINNING CONTROLLER, Z Purton stated that it was intended for the horse to either lead or to sit in 2nd or 3rd position depending on the pace of the race. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in an endeavour to take up a forward position, however, it did not show as much early speed as other runners in the race and as the pace of the race was good in the early stages, this resulted in WINNING CONTROLLER racing further back in the field than had been intended. He said WINNING CONTROLLER travelled well in the early and middle stages and when shifted to the outside of DELIGHT EXPRESS to improve near the 500 Metres, he expected the horse to finish off the race well. He said however that WINNING CONTROLLER came under pressure in the early part of the Straight and then did not respond to his riding. He added, when placed under pressure in the Straight, WINNING CONTROLLER made a number of abnormal breathing noises and as the horse had previously been reported to have bled, he felt that the horse may have bled again given the manner in which it was finishing off the race. He said as WINNING CONTROLLER was well beaten, he eased it down over the final 100 Metres. A veterinary inspection of WINNING CONTROLLER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of WINNING CONTROLLER, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING CONTROLLER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that as DOR DOR had not been beginning well and had raced greenly in a number of its races, he was asked, from the outside barrier, to have the horse begin as well as possible and attempt to take up a forward position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode DOR DOR along in the early stages and allowed his mount to remain racing out wide on the track to take advantage of what he considered to be better ground. He said when DOR DOR travelled keenly in the early stages, he had attempted to steady the horse without having to break its stride given that it had raced greenly in previous races. He said near the 1100 Metres he commenced to shift DOR DOR over closer to the inside rail and as he did this DOR DOR continued to travel keenly which resulted in the race being run at a faster tempo than he had hoped. He said he continued to try and steady the tempo, however, DOR DOR was running too keenly and given the horse’s previous racing history, he was not confident that DOR DOR would be able to respond favourably if he were to place too much pressure on it. A veterinary inspection of DOR DOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WINNING CONTROLLER, DASHING DART and SUNNY POWER were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (581) RUBY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

ALCARI shifted out at the start and bumped LUCKY HERO.
SUN SUN FA FA was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Near the 950 Metres, GAMECHANGERS raced tight outside MIGHTY POWER.
Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, CALIFORNIA TURBO failed to muster speed and consequently raced back in the field.
When questioned, K C Leung stated that he was asked to ride HAIR TRIGGER positively in the early stages and obtain a position behind the leaders if possible as it had been getting too far out of its ground and it was felt that the outside barrier would provide the opportunity for HAIR TRIGGER to take up a more forward position. He said he was told that it would be acceptable for him, if required, to race in a three wide position so long as HAIR TRIGGER was able to obtain cover. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode HAIR TRIGGER along in the early stages in order to obtain a trailing position. He said however that as GAMECHANGERS had established its position to the inside of HAIR TRIGGER and CHARIZARD was following that horse, he did not believe it was available for him to steady HAIR TRIGGER in an attempt to obtain a trailing position behind GAMECHANGERS and also felt that continuing to steady his mount to obtain a trailing position behind CHARIZARD would result in HAIR TRIGGER again getting to far out of its ground. He said he therefore rode his mount along to clear runners to his inside which resulted in the horse having to race three wide and without cover in a more forward position than had been intended.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that after being able to shift across to race outside the lead in the early stages, HARD PROMISE became unbalanced in its action and dipped near the 500 Metres. He said he was able to balance HARD PROMISE back up and the horse initially appeared as though it would finish off the race satisfactorily. He said however that approaching the 200 Metres HARD PROMISE came under pressure and then gave ground noticeably over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of HARD PROMISE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GAMECHANGERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHARIZARD, LUCKY HERO and TEAM SPIRIT were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (582) RUBY HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 3 1200 m

Near the 150 Metres, AEROHAPPINESS shifted out abruptly towards the heels of SPEEDY LUCK, resulting in its rider, J Moreira, having to check AEROHAPPINESS to prevent the horse from continuing to shift out.
In the Straight, SPEEDY LUCK raced with its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
For the majority of the race, DIAMOND KING travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of BIG PARTY, G van Niekerk stated that the horse was somewhat disappointing, he believed that the manner in which the horse began the race had contributed to the horse’s performance. He said BIG PARTY was fractious in the barriers and reared prior to the start being effected and then as the gates opened missed the start and was crowded for room between SHOUSON and KING OF HEARTS which shifted out. He said he rode his mount along in an endeavour to make up lost ground, however, BIG PARTY was left racing in a three wide position making the turn near the 900 Metres. He said after the 850 Metres BIG PARTY lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RACING FIGHTER and then continued to lay in and had to be steadied out away from the heels of RACING FIGHTER. He said whilst BIG PARTY was travelling satisfactorily, it did not travel strongly and after bumping DIAMOND KING near the 450 Metres BIG PARTY came off the bridle and commenced to hang out as it did in its barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race. He said BIG PARTY continued to hang out in the Straight and shifted towards the outside rail. He added he was reluctant to stop riding and straighten BIG PARTY as he felt that would break the horse’s momentum, therefore he allowed the horse to continue to shift out. He said although BIG PARTY drifted out under pressure, BIG PARTY finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of BIG PARTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BIG PARTY, MR CROISSANT and RACING FIGHTER were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (583) SAPPHIRE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1600 m

IMPERIAL GALLANTRY was withdrawn on 13.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inflamed left front fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WORLD FAMOUS (K Teetan). Before being allowed to race again, IMPERIAL GALLANTRY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, NEW ELEGANCE became fractious, put its head down and consequently was slow to begin.
RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE and DEFINING MOMENT bumped at the start.
WORLD FAMOUS began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with SOUTHERN SUPERSTAR, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, UNICORNBABY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1300 Metres, EARTH TRILOGY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOUTHERN SUPERSTAR as that horse was being steadied to obtain cover behind WORLD FAMOUS. Then passing the 1200 Metres, EARTH TRILOGY became awkwardly placed behind PRECIOUSSHIP which, when proving very difficult to settle, got its head up on a number of occasions when racing behind TRAVEL FIRST. EARTH TRILOGY then continued to race close to the heels of PRECIOUSSHIP until passing the 1100 Metres.
Near the 1000 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP got its head up when continuing to travel keenly and awkwardly placed behind TRAVEL FIRST. PRECIOUSSHIP was then left racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres.
After improving to be racing outside the heels of SUPER ELEGANCE after the 500 Metres, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE was then steadied and shifted to the inside of that horse near the 400 Metres when disappointed for running between SUPER ELEGANCE and DEFINING MOMENT.
At the entrance to the Straight, BEAUTY DAY was shifted in away from the heels of WORLD FAMOUS to obtain clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, SUPER ELEGANCE was awkwardly placed behind UNICRON JEWELLERY when attempting to improve into tight running between that horse and DEFINING MOMENT.
Near the 250 Metres, SOUTHERN SUPERSTAR shifted in and bumped TRAVEL FIRST.
Near the 200 Metres, BEAUTY DAY, which was laying out, was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of WORLD FAMOUS which shifted in.
Approaching the 100 Metres, WORLD FAMOUS shifted out and brushed SOUTHERN SUPERSTAR.
After the 100 Metres, BEAUTY DAY, which continued to lay out, raced tight inside WORLD FAMOUS.
After the race, C Schofield stated that after being slow to begin, NEW ELEGANCE travelled keenly when the pace of the race was only moderate. He said NEW ELEGANCE then did not finish off the race and, in his opinion, did not handle today’s track conditions. A veterinary inspection of NEW ELEGANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of UNICORNBABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DEFINING MOMENT, EVER LAUGH and SOUTHERN SUPERSTAR were sent for sampling.

KASI FARASI was removed from the barriers. As SEERITE DRAGON was attempted to be removed from the barriers, JADE FORTUNE became fractious, reared and momentarily got its left front leg over into the adjoining stall. JADE FORTUNE was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After a delay, SEERITE DRAGON was also removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, SEERITE DRAGON was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, SEERITE DRAGO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
REGENCY BO BO began only fairly and then had to be ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages to take up a more forward position.
JIMMU was crowded for room on jumping between SUPERICH and GOOD STANDING, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, GOOD STANDING became badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by JIMMU. After this, JIMMU and SUPERICH were shifted across behind runners.
JADE FORTUNE and BEAUTY SPIRIT bumped at the start.
KASI FARASI stumbled on jumping.
WORLD RECORD was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1050 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY shifted out away from the heels of REGENCY BO BO. COBY BOY, which was racing outside and behind CHAMPION’S WAY, shifted out away from that horse in consequence.
Also passing the 1050 Metres, HINCHINLOVE was taken wider by BEAUTY ICON which shifted out from behind STAR SHINE.
For the majority of the race, COBY BOY travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of HINCHINLOVE, BEAUTY SPIRIT and BEAUTY ICON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHAMPION’S WAY and GOOD STANDING were sent for sampling.
