Race:1 (68) BELCHER BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1800 m

WINNING CIRCLE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CURLING LUXURY.
On jumping, PROUD SKY was crowded for room between REGENCY GEM which shifted out and WICKER which shifted in after receiving contact on the hindquarters from PROUD SKY.
From the outside barrier, ROMANTIC JOURNEY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
In the Straight, REGENCY GEM hung in and proved difficult to ride and after endeavouring to improve to the outside of MONEY MARSHAL (L Hewitson) after passing the 200 Metres, REGENCY GEM was obliged to switch to the inside of the heels of that horse when it shifted out approaching the 150 Metres. Then over the final 50 Metres, REGENCY GEM was held up and unable to be tested when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MONEY MARSHAL which shifted back in under pressure. L Hewitson was advised to ensure that he makes more endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course in future.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING CIRCLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REGENCY GEM, CURLING LUXURY and MONEY MARSHAL were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (69) CENTRAL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

NEW ELEGANCE and BULLISH GLORY made contact soon after jumping.
Soon after passing the 300 Metres, SUNNY POWER was hampered when awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLASTOISE (K Teetan) which shifted out when placed under pressure. K Teetan was reprimanded and advised to exercise far more care in similar circumstances.
Between the 100 Metres and the 50 Metres, K Teetan had difficulty pulling the whip on BLASTOISE due to the whip becoming entangled in the horse’s mane and the reins.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on INDIGENOUS STAR, M Chadwick stated that in pre-race discussions with connections it was decided that it would be best to ride INDIGENOUS STAR with cover and to achieve this, it would most likely result in the horse settling towards the rear of the field. He said it was felt that were INDIGENOUS STAR be ridden in a forward position and be left racing without cover, the horse had shown a tendency in the past not to finish off when ridden in this manner. He added that when he rode INDIGENOUS STAR in a recent barrier trial the horse was ridden with cover and closed off pleasingly which reinforced the view that it would be best ridden patiently today. He said although INDIGENOUS STAR was momentarily impeded for a run between NEW ELEGANCE and GORGEOUS AGAIN approaching the 150 Metres, he felt the horse was disappointing in that it was very one-paced in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of NEW ELEGANCE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NEW ELEGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS AGAIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
CROWN AVENUE and BLASTOISE were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (70) HIGH WEST HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

WHAMPOA STAR began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
SUNNY MAJOR stumbled on jumping.
After being slow to begin from the outside barrier, GUERDON HELMET was steadied and shifted across behind runners soon after the start.
Soon after the start, CHATER THUNDER and SUN FOXHUNTER made contact as a consequence of both horses shifting ground.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SUNNY MAJOR was steadied when awkwardly placed between ASSOCIATION FANS and WONDERFUL TIGER which shifted out slightly.
Passing the 1200 Metres, ASSOCIATION FANS was steadied and lost ground when crowded for room inside TIGERLAD which shifted in momentarily when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUNNY MAJOR.
Passing the 400 Metres, CHATER THUNDER was bumped by LET’S COME BACK which shifted out around the heels of SUNNY MAJOR to improve.
The performance of TIGERLAD and SUN FOXHUNTER, both of which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TIGERLAD and SUN FOXHUNTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TIGERLAD and SUN FOXHUNTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ASSOCIATION FANS and LET’S COME BACK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, both horses were unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
LET’S COME BACK, HIDDEN SPIRIT and MASTER BERNINI were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (71) KENNEDY TOWN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

PARTY EVERYDAY shifted in at the start, inconveniencing PLANET NICCONI and SPLENDID TIMING.
From wide barriers, EPTIWINS and IRON BOY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
IRON KING lay out and made the Home Turn awkwardly.
Passing the 200 Metres, when attempting to shift out from behind BINGO to obtain a run between that horse and SPLENDID TIMING, GALAXY RACER was badly checked due to BINGO shifting out slightly when weakening.
Passing the 150 Metres, IRON BOY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of EPTIWINS which shifted in under pressure.
Throughout the race, LUCKY WORLD travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY WORLD immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a minor wound to the inside of the left hind cannon. The performance of LUCKY WORLD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WORLD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding his riding of SPLENDID TIMING in the early part of the Straight, A Sanna stated that he was instructed to allow the horse to race where it was comfortable and to hopefully close off with purpose in the Straight. He said on straightening he was positioned to the outside and behind the eventual winner COLORADO HIGH and did not place his mount under full pressure as he noted that that horse was shifting out to improve. He said once COLORADO HIGH had shifted out around the heels of BINGO, he then commenced to place his mount under pressure. He said SPLENDID TIMING has a long striding action, therefore he allowed it to build momentum before pulling the whip on the horse prior to the 200 Metres. He added SPLENDID TIMING consequently closed off the race satisfactorily. A Sanna was advised that his explanation would be noted, however, he was reminded to ensure that he places his mounts under full pressure at the earliest opportunity.
A veterinary inspection of BINGO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PLANET NICCONI immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, PLANET NICCONI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FRESH POWER, COLORADO HIGH and MAJESTIC CONQUEROR were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (72) LUNG FU SHAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

WINNING ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
SHINEALOT and SUNSHINE WARRIOR made contact soon after the start.
From the outside barrier, CHAPARRAL STAR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
WHO’S HORSE travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
At the 1100 Metres, KA YING BRILLIANCE became unbalanced when directed out to avoid causing interference to WHO’S HORSE which continued to race ungenerously.
Despite being ridden along throughout the early and middle stages, CHAPARRAL STAR became detached from the field and consequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of CHAPARRAL STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CHAPARRAL STAR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHAPARRAL STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 400 Metres, CHEERFUL LEADER shifted out and brushed FORTUNATE RUNNER.
After the 300 Metres, SHINEALOT was shifted to the inside of LUCKY GUY when disappointed for running between that horse and MY WINNER.
At the 150 Metres, LUCKY GUY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SPACE (T H So) which shifted out before being corrected by its rider. T H So was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
The Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred just prior to the 100 Metres where WINNING ENDEAVOUR was checked when racing between CHEERFUL LEADER (M Chadwick) and SUNSHINE WARRIOR (A Domeyer). It was established that after passing the 200 Metres SUNSHINE WARRIOR initially shifted out slightly before being corrected by Jockey Domeyer and then when placed under full pressure shortly afterwards, shifted back in towards WINNING ENDEAVOUR. It was also established that CHEERFUL LEADER, which was racing to the inside of WINNING ENDEAVOUR, shifted out under pressure and that just prior to the 100 Metres WINNING ENDEAVOUR moved in slightly away from SUNSHINE WARRIOR and was checked away from the heels of CHEERFUL LEADER. Whilst the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards considered it appropriate to issue a severe reprimand to both Jockeys Chadwick and Domeyer who were advised that they would be expected to make more effort to keep their mounts on a straight course.
Over the concluding stages, LUCKY GUY lay in under pressure, requiring its rider, B Shinn, to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Throughout the race, WINNING WARRIOR travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of WINNING WARRIOR immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to the left hind fetlock. The performance of WINNING WARRIOR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FORTUNATE RUNNER immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
MY WINNER and SPRINT FORWARD were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (73) MOUNT DAVIS HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

AMAZING CHOCOLATE began awkwardly.
PLAY WISE shifted out at the start and bumped GOOD FIT.
From the outside barrier, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU was steadied soon after the start and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, TOUCH OF LUCK was steadied when racing in restricted room between AMAZING CHOCOLATE and ENFOLDING which was inclined to lay in.
At the entrance to the Straight, PLAY WISE shifted out and raced tight with GOOD FIT.
Throughout the race, GOOD RUNNERS WAY travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of CASIMIRO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CASIMIRO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CASIMIRO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PLAY WISE and GRAND HARBOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOOD RUNNERS WAY and ENFOLDING were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (74) THE JCI HONG KONG SENATE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

RULETHEROOST lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently lost ground.
From wide barriers, RICKFIELD and WARM THE VOICE were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
On the first turn near the 1450 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE was checked away from the heels of BEAR SLAM which was steadied to allow DEAL MAKER to cross.
Throughout the race, PACKING WARRIOR travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DEAL MAKER in today’s race, C Schofield stated that he was instructed to be positive on the horse and take up a forward position, however, both he and Mr K H Ting, the trainer of the horse, considered that it was likely that TANG FLEMING would challenge for the lead and that were this to occur, he should allow that horse to cross and remain racing one horse away from the rail. He said both he and Mr Ting considered that in light of the racing pattern in the previous two races on the All Weather surface, runners away from the inside rail, particularly in the Home Straight, appeared to be advantaged. He said after shifting in to assume the lead passing the winning post on the first occasion, UNICORNBABY showed unexpected speed to share the lead inside DEAL MAKER and with TANG FLEMING improving to its outside, he elected to allow that horse to cross approaching the 1200 Metres and take a trailing position one horse away from the rail as instructed. He added however that with PACKING WARRIOR improving its position outside DEAL MAKER along the Back Straight, he was then unable to shift wider at the entrance to the Straight as he hoped to do to make his finishing run. He said after obtaining clear running from the entrance to the Straight, DEAL MAKER closed off the race satisfactorily. Mr Ting confirmed Jockey Schofield’s evidence and stated that he was happy with DEAL MAKER’s position in the early and middle stages, however, due to circumstances beyond Jockey Schofield’s control, DEAL MAKER was not able to shift wider in the Home Straight due to PACKING WARRIOR being positioned to its outside.
After the race, Z Purton reported that PERFECT TO PLAY came under pressure and hung in approaching and rounding the Home Turn and then did not stretch out comfortably on today’s racing surface. The performance of PERFECT TO PLAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT TO PLAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO PLAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that CLEAR CHOICE did not jump as well as anticipated and consequently raced further back in the field than was intended. He said CLEAR CHOICE came under significant pressure at the 1000 Metres and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. He added, in his view, CLEAR CHOICE did not appear to appreciate the prevailing track conditions today. A veterinary inspection of CLEAR CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CLEAR CHOICE, one of the favourites in the event, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CLEAR CHOICE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
DEAL MAKER, RICKFIELD and WARM THE VOICE were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (75) SAI YING PUN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

Trainer D J Hall was fined $5,000 for presenting MONSTER KAKA in the Parade Ring with a hood and pacifiers whereas the horse was also declared to race with cowls. MONSTER KAKA subsequently proceeded to the Start where the correct combination of gear was able to be fitted to the horse, however, the start of the race was consequently delayed.
MONSTER KAKA began only fairly.
BELLAGIO stood flat-footed as the start was effected and then refused to stretch out in the initial stages, losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, BELLAGIO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
Shortly after straightening, WORLD FAMOUS was checked when disappointed for a run between SOLAR WAI WAI and MAGNIFICENT. WORLD FAMOUS was then badly held up behind SOLAR WAI WAI until passing the 200 Metres.
Passing the 150 Metres, MONSTER KAKA (M F Poon) shifted in under pressure, resulting in SOLAR WAI WAI and WORLD FAMOUS being hampered when crowded. M F Poon was reprimanded and advised that he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. After being corrected, MONSTER KAKA again shifted in approaching the 50 Metres, resulting in SOLAR WAI WAI again being hampered when tightened for room between MONSTER KAKA and WORLD FAMOUS which got its head on the side and lay out. In this incident, SOLAR WAI WAI was struck across the head by the whip of M F Poon.
FOLLOW ME was unable to obtain clear running from straightening until after passing the 50 Metres at which stage the horse shifted out in an endeavour to take a run between GOOD BEAUTY and WORLD FAMOUS. When WORLD FAMOUS shifted in due to contact with SOLAR WAI WAI, FOLLOW ME remained held up and was consequently unable to be fully tested at any stage in the Straight.
Over the concluding stages, DECISIVE ACTION was steadied when awkwardly placed behind BIG BANG BONG and MONSTER KAKA, both of which shifted ground. As a consequence, DECISIVE ACTION was not ridden out all the way to the finishing line.
In the Straight, BELLAGIO lay in and proved difficult to ride, particularly over the latter stages.
MAGNIFICENT raced wide and without cover throughout the race and subsequently gave ground in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of SOLAR WAI WAI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BAND OF BROTHERS and WAR ROOM were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (76) SHEK TONG TSUI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

ENDEARING and SUMSTREETSUMWHERE came into contact at the start.
Soon after the start, HONEST WAY was steadied when crowded for room between SOLOMON’S BAY and SUMSTREETSUMWHERE which raced tight inside ENDEARING (N Callan) which shifted in slightly. N Callan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that in similar circumstances he prevents his mounts from shifting ground and causing interference to other runners.
From wide barriers, HERCULES, SALTO OLIMPICO, TOP MILITARY and WINSTON’S LAD were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After shifting in to take up a position behind PRIVATE ROCKET approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres, LONE EAGLE got its head up and proved difficult to settle for a short distance.
After being crossed by ENDEARING approaching the 800 Metres, SOLOMON’S BAY travelled keenly and was restrained away from the heels of that horse for some distance and then was checked at the 700 Metres. HONEST WAY, which was following, was checked in consequence.
Passing the 200 Metres, LONE EAGLE was directed to the outside of CALIFORNIA GUNGHO when unable to proceed between that horse and PRIVATE ROCKET.
At the 75 Metres, LONE EAGLE was inconvenienced by CHICKEN DANCE which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
Close to the finishing line, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOLOMON’S BAY.
Throughout the race, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of SOLOMON’S BAY and HONEST WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHICKEN DANCE and CALIFORNIA GUNGHO were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (77) SHEUNG WAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1400 m

Just prior to the start being effected, HANDSOME BO BO became restless and then as the gates opened lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, HANDSOME BO BO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. After missing the start, HANDSOME BO BO got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance in the early stages when racing back in the field.
On jumping, NOBLE STEED made contact with the hindquarters of HELLO BEAUTY which shifted out. As a consequence of contact to its hindquarters, HELLO BEAUTY became unbalanced and continued to shift out, resulting in NOBLE STEED being checked when tightened onto the hindquarters of UNCLE STEVE.
From wide barriers, JOYFUL TRINITY, KING OF HEARTS and FAST MOST FURIOUS were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
For the majority of the race, FAST MOST FURIOUS travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of MORETHANLUCKY, GOLD CHEST and BEAUTY SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
UNCLE STEVE and HEZTHEWONFORUS were sent for sampling.
