Spring Preview on the Kensington track on Saturday

There is a pause on Saturday for Sydney racing with a Benchmark meeting at Randwick-Kensington before black type racing returns with the first Group 1 of the season the following Saturday with the $500,000, WFA Winx Stakes (1400m) plus four other black type races on the Course Proper.

On Saturday one of the feature handicaps is the $125,000, Spring Preview (1400m) with 14 nominations received on Monday and nominations extended until Tuesday.

The Allan Denham trained Bangkok is down to extend her recent progressive record to three Randwick wins in succession. The five-year-old Medaglia d’Oro mare now has seven wins from 25 starts with the last in the August Handicap over 1300m on a Soft 7 track on August 3rd. She carried 52.5kg under Rachel King for a 1 3/4L win.

Overall Bangkok has now earned stakes of $314,830 from her wins and nine placings.

The Waller stable have nominated Seaway (NZ) after the five-year-old Ocean Park gelding’s win in the listed Winter Challenge over 1500m at Rosehill on July 27th. That win was franked by Tommy Berry going forward from barrier 11 to be second at the 400m and then with 54.5kg they went away for a 1/4L win over Goodfella with 54kg.

Godolphin have nominated Street Cry mare Organza who comes up from her last start at Flemington over 1600m on July 20th where she carried 55kg under Dwayne Dunn to place second.

That second was Organza’s fourth in succession with her first run of this campaign a third in the Group 3 Dark Jewel over 1400m at Scone back in May. She has placed second eight times in her 19 starts to go along with four wins and two thirds. She too has earned a good stakes tally for the stable of $324,190.

The Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) has 21 nominations.

The Kensington track is currently rated a Good 4 after 0.4mm of rain for the last 24 hours and 2.5mm of irrigation for the last seven days. The rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit.

Sydney’s weather this week is forecast to be sunny with temperatures from 19c on Tuesday to 23c on Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a mostly sunny day with 10c – 21c.
